I agree with everyone and floortrader that time and responsibilities getting in the way is one of the biggest challenges to make continued progress on my ww collection. I went back to work several weeks ago (owner/operator of a lawncare & landscaping business) and April, May, June is by far my busiest time I work 60 to 70 hrs a week. I can't get much done on my collection but today I had a few hours I wanted to work on it but it is hard to get refocused on where I left off and hard to figure out the most effective way to make progress in the limited time I have.

Kyle B ---- Sounds like I lived the same life issues as you . I was a Asphalt Contractor for 24 years . Time for stamps was a issue from March thru November with working hours .

One of the things that I see as a problem ,has been the lack of the whole philatelic community both on this board and all the other chatboards plus all the many clubs and societies has been the lack of interest in keeping records or maintaining all the different new Fakes and Forgeries that have come into the market place .

Sure we got tons of people crying on chat boards around the world about the fakes but I notice NOBODY was keeping a record of them . So I took it on myself to start buying these fakes . The problem was it drove some of the regulars on the chat board to sheer carzyness . But my thinking was someone had to buy them to keep as a record and have examples of these recent fakes .

I understand we got tons of books and websites that explain all the classic well known fakes but where is the record for all the new stuff that is coming out in the past 50 years ,sorry nobody else is keeping records of this trash . We got experts now who don't even know about all the recent stuff.

So here is some of the new stuff ,that will float around for the next 100 years and nobody is keeping records of it .

Thank you Floortrader for showing these. I'd never heard of Mafia Island before so just looked it up. Without being an expert, the overprints look so crude that it's almost laughable. I don't know how long you've been working on these fake stamps project but what are your mid to long-term plans for this work? I may not have anything to contribute personally but would you reach for help from other collectors to help in gathering all this information?

MIRMAN ----I hope to give my forgery collection to the APS ,because their in house collection is a mess . I was up there a few years ago . Ask to see their forgery collection and was invited to sit down with four unorganized storage boxes . bits and piece from 5 or 10 donators but not what I was hoping for . It needs to be restructored into one organized collection and the tons of duplicate material put up for sale .

The thing with forgeries is a lot of it is the same common stuff maybe 90% is everyday common material . The better fakes need to be written up and put into a searchable system .

Floortrader:

Love seeing all of your beautiful sets of stamps. I've never made any of my own pages and have a few questions..Can pages from steiner be made for topical collections or just by countries? I collect some topics (mostly from the 1960's) and back then I bought pages from White Ace. Those pages are all way out of print and I would like to renew those collections and get rid of the Crystal mounts. Do you know of any source to print pages by topics from multiple countries on the same pages?

OLDDUTCH2 --- I am the wrong person to answer your question .

I can and do use Steiner Pages to make pages with up to 5 lines as a heading at the top of each page . But to print below the heading ,I have no idea . But we have others here in the stamp community who modify the Steiner Pages or use other software who make very nice pages with printed squares and print below the top of each pages . I just never got that good with the ability to customize pages .

Okay Floortrader. Thank you for the response. I'll keep looking to see what I can find. May be able to remove the Crystal Mounts without too much damage to the pages. I tried on some before and they left ugly yellow marks from the glue strips. Maybe new mounts will cover the glue marks.

If you look at one of the Albumeasy threads, there's guidance on making pages. Personally, I'd just put them on quadrille pages and do the write-up by hand.

I think it is more important to mount your stamps and show some type of organisation to your collection than using the written or printing method you like .
My problem and for many collectors is the fact that weeks ,months even years later you pick up something that adds to your page ,then do you reprint the page again or do you just add the new item off to the side and add a few notes with a pencil or pen to identify it . My pages will have two or three things before I break down and redo the page .

For most handwritten pages, I'll tend to set out spaces for the core set, and have a second page for variations (shades, perfs etc) - if I just have the odd additional thing, I'll keep it in my stock-pages until I have enough to justify a new page. Some sets where I have a reasonable number of the varieties - eg the KGVI Ceylon definitives - I'll make pages with spaces for them all.
