I am new to stamps and feel overwhelmed. I inherited a large collection and want to sell a few. My researching has made me feel like an idiot. I'm in way over my head! May I post pics of stamps to determine their value?

Welcome. Post pictures in "you inherited some stamps" forum. I would be curious as how you would sell some stamps?

Pashalexi,

The greatest value most of your stamps have is the family connection to who collected them. That being said,

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Welcome --
Please post some pix, just a few of what countries you have, so we can give you some advice on you dilemma.

Meanwhile, another of your posts asked about breaking up strips of stamps, which I assume is what we call coils.
Until you really know what you might have, do not break anything up, do not tear stamps off envelopes if you have 'em, etc.

So shoot us some images and one or another of us will try and suggest a way forward for you.

I agree with the above admonition, "don't do anything rash." Stamps have this great habit of waiting for you to figure them out.

Ooooooh! That's so beautiful, so clever, so true and well-said.

How many times have I left stamps aside because I didn't know what to do about it and once I came back to those stamps, I found them suddenly so interesting for some random reason!?

It is fun to look at and learn about your stamps. They will teach you things about your loved ones that accumulated them.

This place has sent me back into some glassines three or four times...literally over and over again. E.g., I went through my KGVI Canadas looking for WW2 blackout cancels, and sure enough, I had some. I'd been through them a handful of times looking for other things, but didn't know to look for those particular postmarks.

I've often said, I'll sell my duplicates, if I ever get any.

[This might be my 6000th post. It took me two years to get to 5000, and ten years to get the next 1000. I've resolved to try to pay more attention to what goes on here.]
