Perfins are generally avoided by general collectors as they view the stamp as damaged. Collectors of perfins unusually get stamps for much less when perfinned but some go for more, much more if a rare perfin. Overall the price of perfins does track the price of the underlying stamp.

Yes, I also do not understand the question. The OP might refer to the top perforations?

I believe Peter has deciphered the question.
The OP seems to have counted 10 perforations across the top of the stamp, but called them perfins. That certainly threw me until Peter asked about the perforations.

No matter what, it'd be nice to see the whole stamp.
I think the question now revolves around counting perforations, vs. gauging them. OP should weigh in please!

The kind of stamp you have is a perfin (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfin?wprov=sfti1). The little notches along the edges are perforations, which are measured using a special gauge, not by counting them.
What exactly is your question?

Let's take a different approach ....

I sense the original poster understands the difference between perforations and perfins, but has misinterpreted the catalog listings.

I sense the original poster has found the listing for Scott 557c the rare "perf 10 at top or bottom" variety.
A Scott 557c stamp will indeed be perf 10 at top (or bottom), BUT will be perf 11 on the other 3 sides.

However, the OP's stamp is perf 10 on ALL four sides, thus it can only be Scott 586.

Then the perfin question can be applied. The presence of a perfin can add or detract from the overall value of a given stamp depending on factors such as the base value of the stamp, the base rarity of the perfin and its orientation and quality of punching, etc. In this case, common stamp, common perfin, nominal value.
