Face Lot Prices Dealer Buy Prices

I like looking at what dealers want to buy especially for modern since much is sold at a discount of face. This is the general buy list for Markest Stamps who advertises in Linn's regularly.

Forever sheets being purchased at 80% face.



He has a buy list for specific sheets and found one on his buy list that he offered for sale. For Scott 4521 (64¢ Wedding cake, $12.80 face), he will pay $40 and sell for $69.95.
My 2021 Scott prices it at $50. Anyone have a later Scott?

The wedding stamps in general seem to command some premium over the usual discount.

I have the 2023 Scott Volume 1A from the Urbandale library, and the mint price listed is $2.50 per stamp, so times 20 for a sheet = still $50.

Large lots of $1 and up face have frequently been bringing 80% at auction for a while now. My understanding is that coin dealers use them. Probably true of the forever stamps, too.

It is not just coin dealers. Stamp dealers regularly send purchases to the UK covered in older low value definitives. The last I recieved had 102 stamps on it paying a postage of $30. They were mainly the 32 cent maple leaf definitive. I guess this reduced the actual cost of the postrage to the dealer to about 15 - 20 dollars. In this case the saving was passed on to me but that is not always true.

If the buyer is charged the "actual postage" the dealers makes a significant extra profit.

Wedding cake and related stamps are often in demand by wedding planners for sending out the announcements, etc. so they tend to be higher in commercial value than the flags and other routine items.

The discounts did not surprise me. I was more curious about his buy/sell pricing since could be considered a more traditional dealer. Of course this is based upon ONE sheet and may pick up some for less in lots,

He was paying premiums for quite a number of modern mini-sheets. They sure are easier to handle than the 50 / 100 stamp sheets

With all the recent price increases in postage cost ,it gets harder to use up those low face value stamps . It has gotten impossible to use that many U.S. POSTAGE stamps ,watch and see those 6 cents or less stamps offers and sales get reduced further from the dealers . It has gotten so bad they are just used to round out higher value stamps on envelopes and no longer used to fill a envelope themselfs .
