Gass In Schaumburg IL In 2025 Before The World Show In Boston In 2026
2023 January 28 |
After Cleveland and Hartford in 2023 and 2024, respectively, the APS has decided to select Schaumburg IL for the 2025 show.
"The American Philatelic Society Board of Directors selects Schaumburg, Illinois, as the site of the 2025 Great American Stamp Show. The annual show will be held at the Schaumburg Convention Center from August 14-17, 2025. The show hotel for the show will be the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel, a Marriott property directly connected to the convention center. The convention center and hotel are located approximately 18 miles from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Schaumburg was selected over Las Vegas after polling APS dealers showed greater support for Schaumburg."
Even though I know how hot it is in Vegas during the summer, since I live in AZ, I was hoping that they would take a chance on a place that could be a destination trip instead of a visit to a place that has no other big attractions. Schaumburg is near to Chicago, but not in the city so that would be a bit of a trek to hang out. I also presume considerations included Schaumburg being less expensive and centrally located versus Vegas. The dealers are key for show support, but I think it would have been intriguing in terms of attracting new and younger people to hold it in Vegas and intensely advertise it. Not sure it would have been able to compete with a Vegas show or nightclub, but it might have been an interesting experiment to see how it went versus the usual places these shows are held.

I agree with you. I can say with certainty I won't be going to Schaumburg Illinois, but I would have probably gone to Vegas. Why? Because I have a family who would rather watch paint dry than spend hours at a stamp show, so any destination I go to for stamp shows also needs something that would interest the rest of my family. I went to the world stamp show in NY because everyone was excited to go to NY, and I spent thousands of dollars at that show, only because my family was happy to go there.
This is a pattern that has repeated a few times for me, when stamp events are in desirable locations I am more likely to go there. My family has learned this, and now my wife and kids ask me when is the next international stamp show, hoping it will be someplace they can be excited to go to because they know I'm more likely to want to go to a great destination if there is some sort of stamp event going on. |

Schaumburg is not Chicago, but staying downtown and commuting to the show is easy.
Coming from the NY, Chicago is a lot easier than Vegas or Sacramento. |

Schaumburg is located about 5 miles from where CHICAGOPEX is held...
Very easy 20 minute drive from O'Hare. |

It takes the same amount of time to get from Schaumburg to Chicago as it does to get from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Just stay in Chicago and drive 30 minutes to Schaumburg if you want a family vacation. |

There are a ton of family-vacation-type things to do in the Chicagoland area. I'm going to take a slightly different tack and suggest that a family stays out by the show site.
The family will need the car, and they can either drop you off, or you can Uber over to the show. If you leave them downtown without a car, you're limiting them needlessly. (Unless, their idea of vacation-ey things are all downtown-ey things, in which case they're probably better off ubering.)
If I had to spend four or five days on a family vacation in either Las Vegas, or Chicago, it's Chicago, hands down.

I wonder why they don't have it at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois which is only 2.3 miles from O'Hare. They had the international show there in 1986, the World Columbian Stamp Exposition in 1992, and the APS STAMPSHOW there in 2001. |

Probably expense. Or it was already occupied. |

You're right. I spoke to some one at the APS and I was told that it was too expensive. |

Observing broadly, a number of convention centers are linked to hotels and have considerable room-night requirements in addition to the meeting-hall space. |
