Was unable to access the gb-precanels dot org website this morning.
Does anyone know if this helpful resource will return?
TIA.

I don't know if the site is temporarily or permanently down - but the good news is that it has been archived in the past so it can still be accessed:

No response thus far. Let us just hope he is on Holidays. One of the great Philatelic Telegraphic information links. Just this minute received |

I hate to say it, but their domain name is for sale and anyone can now buy it for a few dollars. This means one or two things; - either they are not planning to put the website back up - they are unaware that the domain name has expired
I assume that if they wanted to simply change the domain name they would have kept the old one; I am afraid that this does not bode well..
If it is going dark, I am willing to host the entire site under Stamp Smarter if the owners are open to keeping it active. Don |

Thanks for the offer, Don.
Agree with Rod. The gb-precancel site is a good one.
Yesterday found a msg indicating the URL had recently expired. |

Hi. I have also been trying to find what happened to Steve Panting's site, and happened across this forum, so I have joined (from the UK). I last had an email from Steve on the 1st November 2022, but have not tried contact since. I am one of the contributors to his site, having submitted a number of scans, and have a quantity of further material to submit. I have been using the site every week for a couple of years. It's disappearance is a disaster. I shall also try emailing Steve to see what happens. Jim. |

I tried both of his email addresses, but no reply after 6 days. He has always replied very quickly in the past. I worry about him, he would not just abandon the site after all the work he had put into it. I will try some of his other contacts, perhaps someone knows something. |

Hopeful news. I contacted Ian Pinwill (joint host of *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***). He knows Steve much better than I do. The important part of his reply is copied below. 'Steve is fine but as his website is hosted in China where he lives, he is having some issues renewing it and getting it back up and running! He is working on it and if it comes back under a different address I will let everybody know. After China banned him from having a yahoo email he unfortunately swapped to the one associated with his web site which has now gone.' If and when the site is back up, I shall let this forum know straight away. Fingers crossed! |

Steve has now got the site back up and running under a new web address. I have tried it out, and the areas that I most often look at seem fine, search functions work etc. The new address is: *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***When I first tried to access it I got red warning signs about its being a dangerous site. Probably just a new site that the virus companies etc have no info on. I just use an old machine which is not used for anything secure. |

Please do not post links until you have 50 posts. I have verified the link and it ok... https://telstamps.org.uk/It will be flagged as dangerous by most browsers because the owner did not implement https (secure sockets) to his website hosting service. While I agree that this is not really needed for a non-transactional website, it is wise to add it to every website since you can get a https certificate for free. He will probably spend more time explaining to users that is site is ok then it takes to secure and setup a free certificate. Additionally, his site will be penalized for not having it by the search engines. Don Edit 2/28/23 - httpS added to website so link above updated |
