I've collected Wisconsin T&T leisurely for a number of years and have just recently started digging into them a little more in depth.

I've come to my Caledonia 466 (the type isn't really important though) and am trying to determine just which Caledonia produced this precancel.

According to Wikipedia, Wisconsin has 4 places called Caledonia. Before 2006, all of them were towns (aka townships). There's one in each of these counties: Racine (now a village), Columbia, Trempealeau, and Waupaca.

I don't know how to decide which one created this issue. It also feels a little unusual that a town would be issuing a precancel.

Does anyone have more info on the history of this stamp or on the Caledonias that might shed some light on this?

The one in Racine County.

I would recommend bookmarking Jim Forte's postal history webpage, which has a "U.S. Post Offices" button in the left column of his home page. It leads to a search which yields this for Caledonia:

Awesome! Thanks, John.
