i may be asking a silly question, please ignore if this is so.
I have a Stanley Gibbons stamp collour key, does this align with all the USA stamps particular the washington/franklins as I am trying to identify scott numbers etc for the stamps. I luckily recieved the experts book as an Xmas gift and i'm enjoying researching the stamps.
Unfortunately, names for colors vary from country to country and in the Scott Catalogue from issue to issue. The colors of scanned stamps can be inaccurate, but one place to start would be with the web sites of the US expertizing services (PSE and PF). While the color will not be 100% correct it can put you into the right area. It is also important to look at the order of the words in a color name. A brown yellow and a yellow brown are not the same. Brown yellow would indicate a stamp that is predominately yellow with brown overtones. A yellow brown stamp would be one that is predominately brown with some yellow overtones. This is especially important with the US Scott 1b (orange brown) and 1d (brown orange). Many collectors forget this.
