Hi! I picked up a small stamp collection locally and it has some interesting pieces. I'm new to stamps and could use some guidance.
Thanks Rory.

Well, I'd ask you, What kind of guidance are you looking for? How to store? What to collect? Stamp reference works?
As best I can tell, the stamps you picture are essentially worthless, but the covers (the envelopes) are interesting, so don't remove the stamps from the covers. A specialist collector might research the sender/receiver and their connection, here's Pete Hoover's (grandson of the late president) obituary: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial...clark-hoover

I don't know what kind of guidance you are looking for but these covers are not addressed to the president. Just someone with a similar name.

These are addressed to Herbert Charles Hoover III the President's son.
Its not the stamps
That interest me but the man and where it is addressed to.
III guess what I'm asking is if I have stamps collected in envelopes with Herbert's wife's name on a lot of them. Old cursive handwriting on most. Where or how do I verify my suspicions.

I think the 'III' (3rd) designates his grandson.

It's the grandson (see my first post). There's 1) no financial value here, only philatelic and 2) no reason for anyone to forge the name or handwriting of Herbert Hoover's grandson or his wife.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't expect them to be worth anything other than being kinda cool to have something from by what I can tell is related to a POTUS or family in some small way. I have envelopes from the US embassy in Morocco addressed to a company in France that Herbert worked at. I find it all interesting. Thanks again.

Oregon Rory,

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ
