As an occasional retroReveal user I was disappointed to find that it had once again gone offline in May 2022. Just when I needed it most.

Determined to do something about it I dusted off my trusty laptop and after a week or two of furious coding had come up with a replacement sufficient for my needs.

My plan was always to release it publicly. However, before I could do so though, it would first need to be tidied up. Help text added, installation scripts created, and of course a web page for distribution.

However, as we all know life happens. Other priorities come up, and with the attention span of a goldfish I had soon moved on to other things. And, in the interim, PostmasterGS had created his excellent Postmark Reveal site so there was no longer a pressing need.

Recently, with some time on my hands I decided to make "ImageSleuth" ready for distribution.

ImageSleuth runs on Windows, Mac or Linux and does not require an internet connection in order to function.
Once it has been downloaded and installed, ImageSleuth can remain on one's computer indefinitely, and is of course completely free of charge.

It can be downloaded directly from the ImageSleuth website.

Clive

Thanks, John and Don,
As I am my own QA department, I even had to hijack my wife's laptop to check that it runs on Win 11, it is great to have feedback from others.
And thanks Rod, much appreciated.

I don't know if it's bad form to say this, thereby encouraging others to venture outside the listed requirements, but it installed, opened and "revealed" just fine on a 7 Pro computer. Nice job.

Actually, that is great to know, thanks Cjd

My plan was that it should work on Win 7 and newer.
But, as I don't have access to any Win 7 or Win 8 systems to test on, I had to play it safe by listing Win 10 as a requirement.

My scanner software outputs files with extension '.TIF'

I am not able to drag/drop these into Image Sleuth (which is filtered for just '.TIFF' extensions.)

I am able to change the drop down to 'all files' and browse/open the file, but it would be nice if I could do the drag/drop without having to either

A. Rename my source files with the extra "F" on the extension.
or
B. Change the drop down filter and then browse to the files.

Oh, I never thought of that, I will fix that in the next version of ImageSleuth

I have just released an update to ImageSleuth.
The latest version, V1.1.0, may be downloaded from: https://www.thestampweb.com/imagesleuth

New features are brightness and contrast controls which I find can be useful for some images.
I have also added drag and drop so that images can be dragged directly onto the main window, and it also now accepts files with a .tif extension in addition to .tiff

I have also put together a brief introductory Youtube video

Hi Clive,
Thank you for your efforts on this project.

When adding larger (>1MB) image files, it would help greatly if the app would display some type of user feedback that it is 'processing'. The app becomes non-responsive (i.e. cannot minimize the app while it is processing even using Task Manager).

I also notice that if you drag and drop a larger image file from an Explorer window, the Explorer window also becomes non-responsive.

Smaller image files (<300kb) seem to process fairly quickly, typically under 1 minute. But larger files (>1 MB) seem to take a very long time (5-10 minutes). I have tried reducing the thumbnail size to 100 px but it still takes a long time.

trying to process very large image files (>10MB) is virtual impossible. I assume that I have plenty of machine (specs in post above).

Am I doing something wrong? What kind of processing times are you seeing with 2MB file?
Don
