What Our Members Collect

Is it possible to turn it around.

I collect Denmak so if I go to "What our Members Collect" and Press the D in the headline I get all the persons starting with a D and what they Collect.

Now if you turn it around Press D and all collections which starts whit a D is Shown and secondly who is the collector. It will be easier to find a collector whit same interest.

The subject is What the members collect, not things collected by members. Emphasis on the members over what they collect. There's only 26 letters in the alphabet, if one so chose they could simple ctrl-f search each page for their own collected interests

Pretty sure I collect something for every letter A to Z.

Well It might be me that do not understand how the thought process is.

There is actually 29 letters in my alphabet so please be a little more specific

But to me it makes sence what people collect when I press a letter could be U, I will suppose to see who collest US stamps.

But why schould I press CTRL-F. do not make sence to me.

What you appear to look for is a list of members that collect a certain area. That makes sense to me, but it is not what the section is for.
I can understand the current list makes more sense. I doubt any member who is a worldwide collector would like to enter his name in every section you can come up with.
Furthermore, that kind of list has a tendency not to work:
- Would there be a section on Scottish cinderellas?
- Would there even be a section on Scotland, or should that be listed under 'United Kingdom?'
- Does 'Ireland' deserve a section, or should Ireland be considered 'United Kingdom?'

Scotland is not independend Ireland is. Well I am patience I would enter my name under every single country I collect over time :-). I would like to get in contact whit specialist in sertain areas as my knowledge of US-stamps is limited, but I know a lot about Denmark.

well it was just a sugestion, and somtimes sugestion runs out in the sand a become dust.

Another issue with this proposition is that the "what members collect" is just an open text box where you can freely write an essay or a word. To have it be the way you'd like it, Viking, one would have to check off boxes of what they're interested in. What if I collect US, but only US Cinderellas. The list would be unwieldy and at that point totally worthless. If one wants to know what other people collect, there are two methods: first, post a picture or text topic about your collecting area and ask a question about it and the right people will come out of the woodwork. Second, post a picture or comment that is WRONG and people will certainly come to correct you--that's Cunningham's Law

There is no independent 'Ireland.' That is the Republic of Ireland. 'Ireland' comprises both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The Republic of Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland is both part of the United Kingdom and of Ireland.
Scotland, like Ireland, is a country, the United Kingdom is not.
Until 1922, it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

That even ignores the incorrect philatelic terminology of Great Britain that does not include Northern Ireland.
A staunch supporter of Sinn Fein who collects Northern Ireland stamps - I doubt he will - might list his interest as 'Ireland.'

Now, I wonder how many Americans of Irish origin that collect stamps from Northern Ireland and Ireland would be willing to enter their name in the sections 'Ireland' and 'United Kingdom.' And do you call it 'United Kingdom' or 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland?' If so, what to do with Dublin cancels on Queen Victoria British stamps from 1888?

What to do with stamps from the Republika Srpska?
What to do with Czechoslovak stamps? If you suggest to have a Czechoslovak section next to Czech and Slovak sections, I would question the inconsistency of ignoring the section for the 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.'

There is a whole section for that one. Rather than contacting a specific member who might not appreciate being contacted, you can post in a US forum.
Someone completely forgot about a 'Denmark' section, or even a 'Europe' section.

At some time, someone managed to get the moderators to open a 'Switzerland' section.

Well US-Cinderellas most likely would be placed under U dont you think? and I guess it would be close to USA as b is before c, United Nations would be later than UFO and UFO would before US so it is just to go down the list and If you collect cinderellas and I have know knowledge of that area I most likely will contact you or ask in the forum.

How many members collect Denmark out of 29731 members?

I just posted a suggestion, I can relate to Bad Suggestion or Ok Suggestion I do not need a lot of explanation why people think, it do not work for them.

Well, My knowledge of the American way of thinking is limited, but I will give you a chance to make that dessicion yourself, I think you might be of an age where you might be able to validate your choise, else I suggest you can ask in the forum. In Denmark children of the age of 5 and below will most likely put collecting Trains under T, but put it under C if you like.

But very few members would look under the section 'tog' where that child would put it.
His German friend would put it under 'Z.'

Hello Viking123, more to your point, there is a very very knowledgeable collector of Danish stamps whose goes by Sorsh on this stamp board. He is into plating the bicolors and incredibly knowledgeable. He hasn't been on in awhile but with another 16 posts, you could email him directly.

When I say Ireland I do not mean Northern Ireland, Scotland is not independent they have an automany, Ireland is independent is a part of EU have the Euro as currency. Scotland had an election some years ago to be independent from England and not be a part of UK, but they voted it down, that is why they have automany and is part of the UK.

We call the countries differently but you could write the name which is printed at the Stamp.

In Denmark children would put it under T what do Train and Tog have in common? My best guess would be T therefore under the letter T.

How did the German child show up? the god thing with Europe is most children learn English and geographi, so he probably would know the English word for Zug and this is an US/English website and not German or Danish so think we would use the British terms and put it under T. Just like hjerne would go under B.

Living in Denmark and have collected Danish stamps for 50 Years, I have come across the bicolurede stamp of Denmark and is a member of Tofarvet( a Danish webside for collectors of bicolurede Danish stamps)

I am plating Danish Chr. X full colurede stamps, and is a member of a small group who shares the same interrest. I read articles by some collectors before they are published in Danish stamp magasines some of the magasines I do not even know :-).

If you are interested in Danish Stamp pre 1933 there is a Danish homepage where full sheets scans of Danish Stamps from 1851 to 1929 is uploadede including the bicolured you need them if you want to plate Dansih stamps pre 1933.

Most Irish people will consider that your problem. You cannot expect everyone to take into account your (incorrect) conceptions.




Again: no! You using 'Ireland' incorrectly does not mean Ireland is independent.
What you write about Scotland is not correct either - you are mixing up elections and a referendum and you are getting dependencies the wrong way around -, but I get your drift. I won't get into how many Scots think about the promises made during the referendum campaign.




I try to use both that and the English names in my posts.
This would be very problematic for 'British' stamps as they do not have that.
Both the USA and the Netherlands have issued stamps without the name of the country.
Now, 'Caraïbisch Nederland" would be a problem. Applying your Scottish argument, it should be 'Nederland.'
'Curaçao' and 'Nederlandse Antillen' are the very same thing. The latter were called Curaçao and dependencies.
I feel sorry for collectors of German stamps.
I wonder how many people would understand Shqipëria.
There are enough countries that changed their names without becoming another country.
Not all countries use Roman letters.
