My most usefull literature is Catalogs relatede to my collecting areas, I always try to find specialized literature, I also read other stamp related literature and magasines. Today I bought some literature from DANZIG with information about the stamps with overprint DANZIG. It is most usefull when you collect Danzig. This is just an example of a false overprint, the literature describe the oblique overprint.

1. Non exhaustive collection of Billigs Catalogues (38) Circa $700 one can get lost in these. So much Information. 2. Old used Covers mutilated, of Stanley Gibbons Monthly magazines 50c each, like a printed stamp forum, stamps and queries and answers to worldwide stamps, all glossy. Great Journalists 3. Boxes of "Australian Stamp Monthly" from 1938 as above (Gibbons) but black and white poor paper. 4. Donations of Literature from scf member "CALSTAMP" Some most bizarre monographs, from the most oblique collecting disciplines Beats me where he finds these gems. |

Useful may be in eye of the beholder, but I've been on a binge buying a complete set of H. Lindquist's The Stamp Specialist from 1939-48, plus a goodly number of The Mercury Stamp Journal from 1948-61. Also the Schloss V.2 of Distinguishing European Classics, already had his V.1 just on the German States. Now if I could convince the APS to reprint the Serrane Guide, the available online version is only in French of which I am clueless, though going to Paris in June. |

Conundrum The most un-useful Monograph (Library donation from CALSTAMP) One of the most beautiful, explicit and descriptive plating monographs, Yet, I cannot afford a single Brunei stamp of this issue. $100 > for a singleton. |

Viking 123, Yes to Sweden, and all the Scandinavian countries, and a few select others up to roughly 1940. We will be in Sweden for about 3 weeks this summer, so I will try to find a stamp shop or two. |

@Rod22 Like your aproach to the Brunei stamp, also have litterature about the Danish 2 Rbs Blue well aware that I am not going to collect them. @Svensson I also collect stamp up til 1940-1950 depending on country, I sold my Sweden collection a long time ago, schould have keept it. I go on vacation every year in Sweden I like the country and the nature, never come across stamp shops or maybe it is because they are not in the part of sweden where I am. I have a collection of Norway, Faroe Island, Denmark, Greenland( never understod why we need that many stamps, maybe to exploide collectors), that is why I try to stop in 1940-1950 |

Not as useful as catalogs, Micarelli, etc., but something I bought a couple months ago and have been dipping into often, and with great enjoyment, is The United States Fourth Bureau Issue 1922-1938 by Gary Griffith, Jay Stotts, et al (United States Stamp Society, 2022) .
A pretty impressive production, amply and finely illustrted, it goes into specific stamp designs and the permutations of issues, with lots of nitty-gritty detail on presses, gum breakers, rejection marking, coil waste, booklets, etc., etc. It seems to all be there. I wish all our new friends who've found a 613 would read pp 126-127.

@jlleb1979
I also like books explaining print, watermarks etc. I just bought an older book The history behind the stamp. explaining the post deliverance through time. I also have other books I like to read and some are more favorable than others.
I undestand why you tressure your books, it is always good to obtain new knowledge and by doing so you will always be one step ahead of another philatelist.
@Kobland
Looks like some verry useful books you received and it is always important to know something about ones collecting area and also to know how to take care of it, very nice book cover and beautiful print on the Fundamentals of Philately
@Jrockne

Quote: Roy Hamilton-Bowen's Hibernian Irish catalog is an absolute MUST for this Ireland collector. David Feldman's Handbook of Irish Philately is also great, if you have an interest in some of the more "specialized" details. |

Lucky day at a local used bookstore today! Unusual to find much if anything on philately at used bookstores in my experience, so this certainly exceeded expectations. Sanabria's Air Post Catalogue (1954 edition) The Squared Circle Postmarks of Canada (Moffatt & Hansen, 1981) The Pence Issues of Newfoundland (Pratt, signed, 1982) |
