Quote:Seller is not a stamp enthusiast and is selling off an inherited collection. This throws up a red-flag with me. If you are satisfied with what you have received so far, then I would suggest a small transaction outside the eBay system at first. You can always ask for scans of front and back for the more expensive items. Good luck. |

I send money to my girls all the time using Paypal friends and family and have never been charged a fee. Been doing it for over 10 years. |

Quite right - the only time it becomes a problem (as has been previously pointed out) is when the gifting is used for non-gifting purposes. The "buyer" loses all buyer protection and it is simply not ethical (IMHO). John |

I haven't been charged a fee sending friends and family money, either, but I've always funded it from a bank account, not a credit card...don't actually know if it's possible to F&F with a credit card...if so, that would certainly be a difference. |

It been more than 10 years since I stopped using PayPal for that after being burned once. I will check again. That does not change the fact that in the OP's case he will be hard pressed to claim non-receipt of a purchase when he is only "giving money" not buying with money. Question Bobby, are you sending money only domestically? I still get hit with a charge if I am sending internationally in non-US currency as well as being blocked by my many banks from using a money account (savings, checking) and being forced to use a credit card. For family, I just move money from my account to their account within the same bank, no fee and immediate availability. |

Quote: What do you think is the ethical issue? Are you serious? Theft by fraud - lost fees (PayPal) by claiming that a transaction is a gift, instead of not being a gift. In no way could that ever be ethical, and an ethical person would not do it. John |

PayPal never charges a fee if you use the friends & family option. Doesn't matter if you use your PP balance or draw from a bank account. The attached screenshot, taken moments, ago, should quell any dispute. Now... in my long experience with PP, there are certain recipients who I used to be able to send money to using the F&F option, but no longer. It seems that PP is exempting this option for some recipients based on the number of individuals sending that person money, or perhaps some other criteria. |

In this case I believe the sender pays the fees in addition to the payment amount, not the recipient. About a year ago, PayPal changed it so that PayPal business accounts can no longer receive F&F payments. Business accounts pay fees on all payments now; as you noticed, you cannot send F&F to a business account anymore. |
