Welcome to the forum. Since new-issue stamps from DPRK are embargoed by the USA, you'll probably get the majority of responses from, well, not the US. |

Great to see you on here and welcome to stamp collecting. I had to check the map to see where Dandong was. Good luck building your collection. |

Welcome to SCF.
Do you collect used stamps, too, or only mint stamps? Are you able to send mail in to North Korea and receive mail back? |

lifestoryteller, Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game. Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ |

I have been doing collections from North Korea for a while. I feel I am not welcomed in so many platforms and I could understand what is the reason. But here I got welcomed. first of all I would love to say to you guys thank you very much. And I would love to answer everyones questions. I feel very touched with this word "Ni Hao" thanks a lot:-)
Reply to Cjd Right now I do not have used stamp. But in the short future I will have some. We normally send the mail by train (Only 1 train No.95 from Dandong- Pyongyang (10:00 China time - 17:30p.m. DPRK time )and back from Pyongyang to Dandong No.85 arrive Dandong around 16:30p.m.) They transfer the mail by people with train or flight normally. For letters you can only send the letter to the organization which is doing overseas daily things. For personal letter you can not sent to North Korea. Normal citizen can not send the letters to outside of the country.
Reply to Mainer Dandong is the biggest border city of China just next to North Korea. There is only 1 river between 2 countries. Before I live in apartment anytime I open the window I could see north korea from my living room. In the summer time sometimes we could see North Korea kids swimming in the river or sometimes we could see North Korean people watching clothes near the river. Dandong is a very interesting city. We have minority korean people who is holding chinese passport. They kept Korean culture very much.Korean food here is very famous too. We have North Korean people who is holding DPRK passport here who is doing labor work here who is sending here by the government. and we also have South Korean people here because there is a 1 boat from Inchon - Dandong (Maybe 3 times a week). Also for sure Chinese people here. (Population here is 2 million)
Reply to hoosierboy Thanks for your shareing collections experience.thank you. Reply to classic_paper right, Not only stamps and postcards but also other things from North Korea was not welcomed. I knew.
Thanks for meeting you guys!!

It's possible to collect the stamps without celebrating the regime. Someone should document them and record how the DPRK postal system works, or doesn't work.
The whole situation is so sad and the human suffering is beyond words, so I understand that some people will have a hard time separating the stamps from the regime, and may react accordingly. (It doesn't help that the stamps, themselves, are so over the top.)
As long as I'm not expected to pretend that everything is normal and great with North Korea, I'll probably look in occasionally. |

Welcome! Knowing Chinese here gives you the power to be a great help and authority with Chinese postal and revenue stamps that members ask a lot about them. Can you read Korean too? As for politics, philatelists collect Nazi Germany, Cuba, Russia, and other countries that have political issues about them, but this is a philatelic site, so hopefully, politics will not be a factor here regarding stamp collecting. |
