I don't understand what the seller is thinking by selling those common stamp as "rare"? They all are very common and never worth at least 3.00 what he is asking for them.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_ssn=seafighter3

For example this South African 7 Maize (issued 26.7.1967). SACC gives R45 for a used 296, but it was printed in 1969 and can't be the one in the image which was cancelled October 1967. Also the stamp is in a poor condition.

Didn't the ancient Romans say: "Caveat emptor!"

There are so many listings that call stamps 'rare.' Some even attach ridiculous prices to those rare stamps. This one is not even the worst.

The reasons range from utter ignorance and throwing around words they hope will attract buyers to outright cons. And there are a lot of colours in between.

If Rare or Vintage is in the listing description, then I usually move on.

If the seller calls it rare, and the buyer wants it to be rare, then it's rare, at least from a price perspective.
Buyers have various desires, and you'll always find a seller that will be happy to oblige. That's why you can see in some markets DIET WATER, for example. You can google "diet water" (not water diet).

I purchaced four low value items on eBay. The seller mentioned that "combined shipping" is available. I got four "Action needed" messages from eBay quite soon after the auction closed (only one bidder), so it seems that the seller wants to charge four postages differently. Yesterday I contacted the seller via eBay and reminded him about the "combinend shipping" but he did not reply. Yesterday eBay sent reminders about the unpaid items. Today I reminded the seller about the "combined shipping". Is there something wrong?

When I bought more than one item from the same seller and went to pay there was an option to request a combined invoice and that's where the seller recalculate the shipment.

Combining does not seem possible, but if the seller states that "combined shipping available", he must hold on that. This is a legal matter. If he before bidding and winning tells that combined is shipping available, and then when the auction is closed does not make it possible, he is cheating the buyer.

If I paid what he demands (4 x shipping), I am 100% sure that all the items will arrive in a single package. Doing like this does not give a reliable image of the seller.

I have to think to make a complaint to eBay, and mainly because I have spent a lot of time to this.

This is the reason why I very seldom buy from private sellers on eBay. I have never had any problems with companies, and they have always been willing to solve any issues that may arise. I prefer domestic auction sites for buying stamps. There after winning an auction I can directly see all the information of the seller.

I had a seller last month who had disabled the combined shipping through the system, though the text of the listings said he would combine shipping. ebay's system wouldn't let you request a total.

Seller responded that he would refund the extra postage after I paid, and he did. Everything was fine.

If it was me, I'd pay and include a note to seller asking for the refund of extra shipping.

Try to get to the invoice request, at the stage where you choose the payment method.

Thanks for the advise. I am afraid that it is not possible "to get to the invoice request" (if I understood it correctly). Ebay just asks to pay.

I wonder why the seller doesn't reply to my messages. Tomorrow will be the last day to pay them.

I agree; the system cuts you off from requesting an invoice/revised total at any point in the process, as far as I could tell. Sending a message to seller is the only option. There are lots of reasons why a seller might not reply within a day or two.

If seller has good feedback with no complaints about the shipping, then I'd just pay and include a note asking for the refund of the difference. If this is an actual problem with this seller, the feedback comments will reflect it, stamp collectors being stamp collectors.

I think the seller expected to get more money, but as I was the only bidder, I got them for the asking price, so probably the seller now wants to have some "compensation" in the form of extra postage...

I will wait until tomorrow if he wants to solve this.
