That may be a bridge too far, but I imagine one would need several printed references to cover the various forgeries and reprints. Is there actually an all inclusive website? Barring that I recall there may have been a fairly comprehensive book published in Italian, or was I imagining that? I know that Serrane covers it as completely as any source....up to 1926, and I don't have a copy. Thanks for any info.

Have you tried the "Album Weeds" books?

I have them and need to take another look....perhaps I have considered too dated? I have mainly been trying to parse Tyler Verro...only deals with Cohn forgery of Sardinia, Schloss's descriptions of what constitutes genuine stamps....not detailed enough, and what I can pick up from Serrane that is online. I will have a relook at the Weeds. You would think there would be something more "modern" on the subject though.

Just in case you haven't visited these yet, here's a few useful websites that cover forgeries of the various Italian states.

https://stampforgeries.blogspot.com/ - has covered most of the states to date, actively updated. Best site of its kind IMO.

http://www.forgeries.info/index.php - first issues only of all the states

http://stampforgeries.com/ - covers several of the states

Sassone's Antichi Stati catalogue (also covers Italy up to 1900) does not cover forgeries in detail, but lots of information as to issue dates, typical usage, bisects, covers, etc that is very helpful. Even more detailed, the Annullamenti (cancellations) catalogue by Sassone is the complete resource on postal markings in this area for the states & early Italy.

Beyond all that, sure there are many more resources in Italian print & online, but to date have found the above sufficient for my needs. Hope that helps.
