Need your advice please.
I wanted to buy 3 set of stamps from a dealer on ebay and his shipping cost was 3 dollars each set. I wanted to buy 3 sets so I thought the shipping cost wouldbe just 3 dollars since they are all going to the same address but the total was 9 dollars.

For me it doesn't make sense. I sent a message to the dealer but had no response.
Am I right to expect just 3 dollars for shipping fees or am I doing something wrong here?
Thank you

Sylvain

Hi Sylvain,

Opinion,
yes, you did, innocently, you assumed you would attract "combined shipping"
or, "shipping at cost"
You really should have asked first, or read the advert small print.

Most dealers do offer combined shipping, or will adjust when asked,
Legally I have no idea where you stand, but if the vendor is firm on the $9
then I would refrain from buying from him/ her in the future.

PS: You are not alone, I have been caught.....once,
Henceforward you check

You also have the option, depending on the interface, eg ebay
to place in feedback ..."Warning! this vendor does not combine shipping"

You have to confirm the availability of combined shipping. You shouldn't assume.

Curious

If a vendor refuses combined shipping, does the purchaser have a right to demand 3 individual packages sent.

Regardless of what a seller posts in their "terms of sale," all buyers have the option to ask the seller questions after the sale. Unless it's explicitly stated in their "terms" that they will not combine shipping, it's a fundamentally reasonable request to make.

Suggest that if you don't get a response within 24 hours, write to the seller again. And again after that if necessary. But if you don't get a response then just cut your losses (time-wise) and enjoy your stamps when you get them.

What matters is what the listing says. If it offers combined shipping, you should get it. If not, you can't assume that you will. Things like this should be verified with the seller, ahead of time - if they are not clearly stated in the listing.

The cost is the cost. Cannot change it unless both agree too do that.

These sorts of questions need to be asked prior to purchase, not after.

Next time, you should ask for/get an invoice for all items together and request combined shipping. A fair seller would then adjust your invoice and you'd pay then. If they decline, then it's a "Lesson Learned" about that seller.

At this point, you still might get a refund of some sort. In the future, ask about combined shipping in advance of any bid or order. For me, no reply would mean no sale.

In the past not everyone combined shipping and I had to be very careful to ask. Most automatically combine shipping now but if it is not clear I always ask before I purchase. Do not assume! No expectations! Sale finished you may have to eat this one. Lesson learned. Move on.

As many have written: it depends on the seller's shipping conditions.

Check the shipping and handling section or the listing. If the seller does not state he combines shipping, do not assume this will be the case. You, however, can ask.
Once ordered, if the seller offers combined shipping, check the invoice. If the invoice still charges for each set, there, normally, is an option to ask for a combined invoice. This allows the seller to adjust shipping charges.

Sometimes, it matters which Ebay site you use. Although Ebay appears to be working on it, I have had instances where a foreign (to me) seller offered combined shipping, but my local site did not calculate shipping fees correctly. Nor did it allow me to ask for a combined invoice. Using the seller's home Ebay site did allow me to ask for a combined invoice.
