Discarding is in fact what you are doing in as much as you do not plan to keep the item. It matters not if it goes to the recycle bin, worm bin, fireplace, library or other collector you are in fact ridding yourself of a surplus item, AKA, discarding.
As to Amos suggesting you discard the item, they understand it is not cost effective to pay to have a
USED copy returned, processed back into stock as a
used book; books of such nature which Amos does not sell. With internet and mail order, returns are generally more work than they are worth, thus sold as discards or actually destroyed and placed into the waste stream.
