Good Evening, I was hoping someone could take a look at this 1852 Italian State - Parma 10c #2 and let me know if it's real or a forgery? Thanks again

For the OP: I'm curious, what's the source of all these stamps? Or rather, why are all of them suspect? This is at least the fourth of fifth you've asked about. |

For years - I've had so many questions that I never got answered and I've finally got around to putting my computer and scanner back together. Thank you for all your help everyone. I essentially need to know if these are authentic so I don't get in trouble for selling them as genuine when they are in fact forgeries. That would be big trouble. I'm selling what at least I believe are my best stamps - to each their own - someone may not at all be interested in the most valuable ones - I can't really help what people desire. Essentially I need professional opinions. This is the best stamp forum to get an honest evaluation. |

There doesn't seem to be many issued stamps in this Italian state. Reasons? History briefly anyone ? |

There weren't many issues from Parma, because the state disappeared two decades into the "modern" postage stamp era; I mean, just spend two minutes online and you'll find a lot about the history of the Duchy. As for the stamps themselves: I don't collect the area, and know almost nothing about Italy or Italian States. But I do know that these catalog in the hundreds of dollars each (#2 and #3 are newspaper stamps, the remainder are postage stamps); hopefully you have good assurance that they're genuine and weren't taken by an unscrupulous seller. |

Just beware - even though this is an old album, plenty of forgeries happened in the early years of philately. Even though it looks like you've had some good luck avoiding the forgeries, so far, that doesn't mean anything for stamps in other areas. Having said that, if you spent $100's on this, based on the few pages you've shown, and if they are somewhat representative, then you got a deal. Of course, a lot comes down to condition, too, and small faults can be hard to see in a scan. Still, score! |
