The latest AP shows a roll of about 24,400

Wow, is that all? In the navigation bar on the left of this site (SCF) it says "There are currently 24,270 users on this website." If that is accurate, just 130 more members and SCF surpasses APS.

The last month was when people that did not renew were dropped officially. It usually goes up some as people renew.

The fact is there are a lot of collectors that are not members so if they can provide services (rather than just cutting) they may be able to attract them.

The APS membership is about 2x the circulation of Linn's!

Is there a way to determine how many sellers of stamps are on eBay? Likewise, how many buyers of stamps are on eBay?

The same questions would apply to HIP.

Likewise, I trust the APS could say the numbers for the APS store now on HIP.

I believe there is a big difference between stamp collectors and folks participating in organized philately.

This can be considered a positive aspect if one is trying to attract new members. If the proper benefit is provided, there is a pool already into stamp collecting rather than trying to convert someone.

There seems to be a huge gap between getting someone who wants it for free versus asking them to contribute even $5.

For good or bad, that is one of the benefits of the internet. Just as library users get materials for free, the internet has turned into many's personal library.

Just as many are trying to find ways to monetize, many others work to find ways to demonetize.

Are you eagerly hoping to be right or wrong? You're definitely eager. Just trying to figure out what you're hoping to get out of keeping this going.

I have actually been wondering recently why this thread continues. I realize that site leadership doesn't want to suppress good conversation but every time a post is made in this thread there is the potential of insulting or hassling Scott. I really don't see the point in that.

Scott, you said you are staying. After that hard stop, the thread morphed into the POSITIVE things you, Scott English, have been doing with/for the APS. That was meant to underscore any concern that arose had you been leaving as you would be stopping your positive APS work.

Also being compared are the various recorded "memberships" or another way to say it, "participation numbers" in some of the US areas where informal and formal stamp collectors and philatelists can be found. In today's world it is or seems hard to get folks to pay money for something. The APS needs money for its services and paying membership (and donors) keeps it afloat. The other mentions of areas one finds collectors are the "free" areas and those are the collectors the APS needs on its rolls.

That said is it allowed for you to say the number of participants in the APS Stamp Store as sellers, as buyers and as unique individuals who could be both buyer and seller? Has that increased since the HIP association?

Edited for the added emphasis above.

As a reminder here is what I said, "Here is my one and only response for this thread: Everything is the same until it changes. When it does, I'll let you know. (Feel free to copy and paste this line so I don't have to do it)."

That said, counting down the days to GASS implies something completely different. I suppose there is a reason why you won't directly answer my questions.

And conversation or discussion has the potential of "insulting or hassling" someone, but that should not stop conversations, no matter how much the top, the bottom, the left, the right the middle or those located "over there" may think the topic is wonderful of horse 'leavings' so to speak.

I already pointed out the obvious, Scoot will be leaving the APS someday as no one lives for ever. As to having a desire to be right or wrong, there was and is no such desire. There will be an outcome about the rumor first posited when the time has come to pass the day after GASS.

What I am trying to get, if anything, is a discussion of the positive things, you Scott are doing for the APS now, while you are doing so; not later, after you have left, as a post mortem review. I believe it is best to recognize what one has rather than only recognizing what one hard. That would include constructive criticism being presented as a positive with the writer being purposely do character assassination.

Lastly, I think this is better done "in the wild" rather than within the confines of the APS membership. The members are already members, what we want are the not yet members and former members joining into the APS fold. That requires discussion outside of the the world of just APS members and the board. While this thread continues, that continuance is far, far better than if after the first post, no one cared, no one replied, and there was zero interest if you Scott, stayed or left.

Request sent to moderator to change the thread title:

TO, "No Truth To The Rumoured Departure Of Scott English!"

As well as moving rumoured to this side of the pond as rumored.
