leadership doesn't want to suppress good conversation but every time a post is made in this thread there is the potential of insulting or hassling Scott. I really don't see the point in that.
And conversation or discussion has the potential of "insulting or hassling" someone, but that should not stop conversations, no matter how much the top, the bottom, the left, the right the middle or those located "over there" may think the topic is wonderful of horse 'leavings' so to speak.
I already pointed out the obvious, Scoot will be leaving the APS someday as no one lives for ever. As to having a desire to be right or wrong, there was and is no such desire. There will be an outcome about the rumor first posited when the time has come to pass the day after GASS.
What I am trying to get, if anything, is a discussion of the positive things, you Scott are doing for the APS now, while you are doing so; not later, after you have left, as a post mortem review. I believe it is best to recognize what one has rather than only recognizing what one hard. That would include constructive criticism being presented as a positive with the writer being purposely do character assassination.
Lastly, I think this is better done "in the wild" rather than within the confines of the APS membership. The members are already members, what we want are the not yet members and former members joining into the APS fold. That requires discussion outside of the the world of just APS members and the board. While this thread continues, that continuance is far, far better than if after the first post, no one cared, no one replied, and there was zero interest if you Scott, stayed or left.
