Western Australia Red Swan Four Pence

This 4 pence red or carmine swann has a perforation of 14 and is patterned as shape 1 in SG Western Australia. Perf 14


Its watermark is strange, it looks like matter is solidified inside. We see a type 34 crown but without the A and with two circles below.


I hesitate between N° 74, 78, 105 at SG.
What do you think?

Watermark Crown over CC, this is an SG 74.

Rod will hopefully confirm the postmark is from Perth.

The stamp is a forgery.
The design is wrong (see below), it has a fake watermark and fake postmark.
Many differences can be seen when compared to a genuine four pence (SG56):

Thank you for this information Fairdinkum; I thought its watermark was weird. Sometimes you can see the watermark but it is in grey. I didn't know there were watermark forgers. In France we are not used with watermarks.

The design is false : The swan's crop is different. By superimposing the 2 images we could see all the differences.

The apotheosis is in the false obliteration, are the stripes upside down?

Which begs the question, who is responsible for the forgery?

Apart from different swan, the decorations in the corners are very different, the background detail is different (random dots vs clear pattern) and the lettering is different.

Bobby De La Rue, I don't have the Mavis Pope book on 'Stamp Forgeries of Western Australia' but the website below attributes the forgery to either Angelo Panelli or Erasmo Oneglia (since Panelli was known to sell Oneglia's forgeries).
