Hi, I'm just starting to collect stamps, done a bit of research, and have decided on the theme I'll collect. Mainly souvenirs or miniature sheets of parrots and parakeets. Any tips and info would be appreciated. This is my first purchase:

Ramon1976,

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game. Wonderful you are carrying on your father's collection. You are the next steward of a family treasure you can pass on to future generations. Its value as a family heirloom wil always surpass it monetary value.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Look for a thematic catalog, like https://www.briefmarken.de/michelsh...pa-2017-2018 And/or, consider joining a thematic stamp collecting club, that may have stamp lists to help you identify future purchases. and, welcome to the hobby.

One decision to make is whether you want to concentrate on stamps that have a parrot theme, or will look for any stamp that has a parrot included somewhere in the design.

Here is an example of the issue (obviously without the parrots):

The "junk" stamps from China are naturals for a boat-themed collection, but they might also appear on a list of train stamps. Look what's crossing the bridge to the right of the boat. Some will say that the stamp is not proper for a train theme. It's your collection, so you can decide what's right for you.

It is not here, it is in the two Spaniards, the Portuguese, the Brazilian and the Argentine.
He calls himself Glaubert or Clow because he also collects the circus.
