They just posted the huge collections sale , you got to see the offerings .

This should be a interesting auction ,with something for everybody . The main thing in the intro . they wrote about the many Worldwide collections being offered ,especially all the large sets of Scott Internationals .

Stay away from lot 637 (Italy) - bought it in their last collection auction & had to return it as many of the supposed MNH sets were anything but - a significant number of the sets had damaged gum and moisture damage. Disappointing to see that Kelleher is offering it again with the same description & without disclaimers.

A couple of years ago I won a large WW collection from DFK. They neglected to mention that every stamp was attached with hinges that could not be removed with a torch and a jackhammer. Got no satisfaction. Am done (for other reasons as well). All of that said you HAVE to view lots. There is no way around that.

Sorry ,don't think I would find enough in it to improve my collection . I do plan to hold off on any new purchases because the stuff I bought at the Westpex sale in San Fran . will keep me busy for a few months .

fyi, lot 923 sold for $3500 plus commission, or about $2.37 a pound.

Hopefully the buyer is local or else shipping could cost a tidy multiple of the purchase price.

Zebra the winner could very well have been local- can't imagine buying something that weighs 1,700 lbs before knowing what's in it. Another sign about the collection is that it sold for half-estimate, so other locals who may have viewed the lot didn't see huge value in it.

All that said, the lot weighs about as much as a Polar Bear, so hauling it safely while avoiding heat and rain would be interesting.

Being a buyer who will transport the lot him or herself would give a competitive bidding advantage that would be impossible to beat. UPS would cost around $1500-2000 depending upon location shipped to. Plus the labor to handle. Looks like a NYStamps lot all day long.

Another whale from the September Kelleher's Collections auction. Lot 625 weighs in at a staggering 2500 pounds!

Quote:
Worldwide, A Lifetime's Massive Treasure Trove, formed by one man's passion for acquisition, rather than collecting, a large grouping housed in over 100 bankers boxes or similar-sized containers with anything from the most modest stamp to rarities. This collector started out buying anything that caught his fancy, and had the resources available to buy collections of any size. He went about his collecting experience in a bit different way, as when he had acquired a collection, he proceeded to take all the stamps off the pages, and carefully bag them in quarter- and full gallon plastic bags organized by country. Anything went into these bags regardless of value. There is no telling what can be found, as the estate was just boxed up as received, the boxes organized by country as much as possible. There are literally hundreds of pounds of stamps here, plus a significant amount still on album pages, considerable stacks of these from a number of areas and countries. It is impossible to give a full picture of what is included here, but we will still make our best attempt. Literally every country is represented and we are giving an overview with the countries in no particular order. Please note that most countries have at least one plastic bag (many times several bags) filled with stamps. Great Britain is well represented including a comprehensive collection through 2006 in a Scott album, dozens of commemorative NH sets, hundreds of covers, another attractive NH/mint collection 1887-1990 in Scott album, binder with NH modern, massive stock on pages, great group of covers. Sweden a number of attractive collections with many classics on pages with at least five #24 used spotted on one page, much modern NH, attractive mint never hinged collection of Gibraltar, comprehensive holding of Romania with much of value including a collection of thousands from classics to modern on pages and in plastic bags, Ireland on stack of pages, in bags and on covers, substantial value in Canada with a valuable collection 1868-90 in Scott album with Large Queens complete, Quebec Tercentenary mint set, Scrolls and Maple Leafs complete mint, several other Canada collections in Scott albums as well as on pages, we noticed Canada #4, 14, 17, 18, 20 and a nice group of Newfoundland in one of the Scotts, stock album with significant classics and Back-of-the-Book, several NH Year Sets, Canada NH Booklet collection in Scott album, and of course a number of bagged stamps. Argentina stack of pages, bags and covers, massive holding of Czechoslovakia in bags and on pages, lots of Russia in albums, on pages, in bags and on covers, in addition a two-volume collection in Scott albums, Minkus album with better souvenir sheets, Portugal and Colonies including an excellent collection of Portuguese Colonies in a Scott album plus duplicates on stockpages, a nice mint collection of Portugal proper, stack of pages with Chile, El Salvador and South Africa, also covers from South Africa, Italy NH collection as well as full sheets, covers, stack of pages with huge catalog value, Spain mint collection in three volumes, NH Back-of-the-Book sheets, huge stack of album pages, New Zealand in two albums and a goodly stack of pages, Niue mint and used, Switzerland great lot on pages and covers, Netherlands stack of collections on pages with much of the first issue, Norway stack of pages with many classics, 1971-2008 NH collection in Lighthouse album, Australia on stack of pages, thousands in bags, also year sets, Greece stack of pages, plenty in bags and on covers, Israel filling a couple of boxes, further Persia, Venezuela and Korea, Denmark used collection in Stender album, stack of pages with many classics, Turkey on stack of pages, in bags and on covers including an attractive collection in Scott album, Poland attractive collection in six Davo albums, another collection in two albums, significant stack of pages, attractive group of covers, Hungary stack of collections on pages and duplicates, significant group of Austria on pile of album pages, significant holdings of France and Germany in albums, on pages and in bags, covers, Belgium and Bulgaria on stacks of album pages, Japan, Latin America, smaller country groups are housed in file folders or envelopes where a number of British Colonies are to be found incl. St. Helena, St. Kitts-Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Zanzibar, Swaziland, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos, Virgin Islands, New Brunswick, Solomon Islands, Dominica, Hong Kong, Ceylon, Barbados, Grenada, Malta, Singapore, British Guiana, Cape of Good Hope, Cayman Islands, Basutoland, further St Pierre & Miquelon, Wallis & Futuna, Iceland, Yugoslavia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Surinam, Thailand, Tibet, Tunisia, Viet Nam, Estonia, Canal Zone, Panama, Colombia, Philippines, Liberia, Cambodia, Chile, Pakistan, Madagascar, Egypt, Dutch Indies, Indonesia, Peru, Mexico, Jordan, Haiti, Macau and virtually every other country in the world. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity! Obviously a great property for the internet seller, yet alluring to the retired person with an interest in stamps to be carefully sorted over years which no doubt will yield some excellent finds.

2500 lbs . --- From past experience ,about 500 lbs will go into the trash the SAME DAY ,your stamp lot will fill up your trash dumpster , yes the day you start opening the boxes .It will fill up with cardboard boxes ,hundreds of plastic zip lock bags , a few hundred flyers from previous stamp shows , lots of stamps on paper that the previous owners has picked clean of any better stamps ,their will be 5 or 10 kiddy albums where each stamp was Scotch Taped into these albums , you will also get shoe boxes of recent post cards none with any better stamps .

On the subject of sorting for years ,maybe they should say 80% of this lot isn't worth your time to sort

We are talking about filling your recycle bins the same day you receive the boxes . From your delivery at the front door to the time you carry the stuff out the back door ......all in 6 hours

You will also get 3 or 4 U.N. albums ,maybe 2 or 3 Isreal albums , 5 or 6 Topical album, each album will only have 20 or 50 stamps each and nothing cataloging over a dollar ....all you did was pay shipping which was twice the worth of each of these albums .

You will also get one or two large garbage bags of stuffing this will be old newspapers or plastic bubble wrap. You will get 20 to 50 mismatch three ring binders which were purchased at GoodWill . You will also get notebooks where 50 years ago some kid decided to hinge mount all their common worthless stamps on notebook pages , which wasn't bad when you bought 1,000 himges for 10 cents ,but today with hinges costing $20.00 per 1,000 that is not happening any more .

Figure a high percentage of stamps are from India , Israel, Russia and Eastern Europe .

They also always say they didn't spot any rarities in their quick review ,I be happy if they spotted a stamp cataloging over $10.00 in their $2,000 lot
