Frankie- maybe you need to slow down w your super-rare "discoveries" and do some research before posting potential [unlikely] lottery winners

Please be sure to read the catalog description carefully and completely, assuming always that you have the most common variety unless proven otherwise.

Having said that, we can all dream. As a young teen, I found a rare Chinese stamp. Sold ii in 1986 for $400. Gave my accountant father a new respect for the hobby

Joe1225us,
I try to not encourage 'treasure hunting' for several reasons.

First, starting with the assumption that you have a rarity typically leads to confirmation bias and making correcting IDing stamps MUCH more difficult. Many of us here have been dealing with this, often having others get angry, frustrated and insulting when they are told that they do not have a rarity.

Second, no one in our hobby can promise that a person will ever find a rarity even after decades of looking. But we can promise a great hobby with countless learning opportunities in a multitude of topics. It also promises comradery and activity that a person can do even when the weather is bad or physical activities are difficult.

It is true that the finding a less common material is also a rewarding part of the hobby. But keep in mind that we have been offering ID assistance to inexperienced folks for two decades here and I do not recall a single time that one of them stumbled upon a rarity. On the other hand, we have had multiple times when inexperienced have become hostile and even made threats when they are told they have misidentified their material.

So many of us try to set expectations correctly and help others learn the best approach to IDing their stamps and covers.
