Mail just two days shy of 123 years ago.





So, is this a practice postal stationery entire from a Business School in Philadelphia? Any one know which school if so?

This closed on eBay today as item 364282366058 UNUSUAL ILLEGAL USE 1900 PHILADELPHIA PA BUSINESS SCHOOL STATIONERY? POSTAGE DUE from seller cjmce1.

The 2 cent postage due is probably J39. As for the envelope I have no idea.

A quick look through my copy of James N Drummond's work "College and School Stamps" does not show an example of this envelope. Mr. Drummond may be the best one to identify the school that used similar envelopes.

It seemed more like an envelope from a ladies stationery set. Perhaps the stamp-like imprint is more of a polite "place stamp here" indicator? Consider this doggy envelope where the stamp popped off:


Secondly, the addressing of the original poster's envelope seems inconsistent in addressing format and penmanship with how any business school would be instructing. To me, it just doesn't "smell" like a business school envelope.

For this to be a college practice envelope, it would need the return address of the college or identification of the college within the stamp.
