Very cool stamp from the canal.

On scouting stamps I have just been asked to head up a new section here in WA for stamp collecting with the youth. All I did was ask why it was not being done and the chief commissioner of scouts WA smiled and shook my hand saying it is now.
Wish me luck.

What really PO's me is that , as far as I know, The U.S. was about
the only country in the world that didn't issue a 100th Anniversary
Boy Scout stamp. the only reason they didn't was because of the homosexual thing. But they made sure they issued an illegal immigration stamp. What an insult to scouting.

Political correctness at work. If it doesn't fall on the left side of an issue, forget it!

Give all my extra boy scout stamps to a scout master. he gives them to his boys to get them interested in stamp collecting.
of course, they can get a merit badge.
another one of my pet peeves. maybe in General discussion.
Was in Cub Scouts. As far as I got.(long story)

photos and info from "Scouts on Stamps and Scout Philately" web site by Hallvard Slettebo, Norway
He also has some great scouting stamps, FDC's etc!

"The GB 1982 Youth Organisations Issue with its boy scout and girl guide stamps is well known to scout and guide stamps collectors. What is probably not known, is that there is original artwork for this issue on the market.

In most countries, stamp artists and designers are supposed to hand over artwork for stamps to the postal authorities. This is also normally the case for GB, where artwork is kept by the National Postal Museum.

The stamps of this issue were designed by the British artist Brian Sanders. During the design phase, it seems that he has made various sketches before arriving at the final stamp design. Some of these are now available on the market, both pencil sketches as well as water colours, and for both the boy scout stamp and the girl guide stamp. All of the known artwork pieces differ more or less from the accepted design, so it is possible that only the final artwork was sent to the authorities. It appears that the artwork for this issue was purchased from the artist by a Dr. Latto, who was at the time on the "Stamp Design Council". Dr. Latto's collection has now been broken up, and thus giving new collectors the chance of acquiring good material for their collections."

Thanks!

Just to correct a statement or two, the reason the US didn't put out a 100th anniversary stamp is because Boy Scouting USA was not founded until Feb 8 1910.

The 100th anniversary isn't for another year. The troop I am involved with, Troop 2, Weymouth MA is the oldest in MA and one of the oldest in the country and was chartered April 16, 1911.

I was a cub scout from Wolf to Webelo w/ Arrow of Light. Then graduated to boy scouts and made it as far as Life (1 step below Eagle) and the Order of the Arrow to Brotherhood. Those were some good times.

Ziggy9 you are quite correct.
The Aussie stamps are for the Australian 100 years (2008) that are a year behind the original Scout centenary of 2007 from England.
I think it is Canada this year (2009) and the USA in the 2010.
I am actually looking forward to seeing what Canada does as there stamps are usually pretty cool.
