Good afternoon everyone! I recently purchased a complete set of the Wagner issue stamps on ebay, and have been having doubts as to whether they are authentic or not. I am curious to know if the stamps themselves are original as well as the cancellations on them? I have attached a photo of the listing. I started collecting a few months ago, and am still trying to navigate this fascinating hobby! Thanks to all of you in advance for your help!

Those are likely genuine. Do they have watermarks, and what are the perf measurements? |

They look like they all come from the same philatelic item, maybe cancelled by favour. |

Thank you all for the replies. I am in Lubbock, Texas and am not aware of any other stamp collectors in the area. At the moment, I am still awaiting their delivery. Next time I will do more a more thorough job of researching before purchasing just to be on the safe side. They are coming from Germany, and for what it is worth, the seller has 99.9% positive feedback, which is reassuring. Would I need a special device to see the watermarks? What would cancelled by favour entail? |

You might check with Red Raider Stamps Co, 4123 18th St in Lubbock. Skip would know if there was still a stamp Club in the area. I think it was called the South Plains Stamp Club. Found this from Linn's Stamp News For basic collecting skills, like watermark detection, check the Stamp Smarter "How To" page. https://stampsmarter.org/learning/Home_HowTo.html |

With these issues, you can probable see the watermark by just holding them up to the light. It should be a swastika design. If these have the watermark, the chances of them being a forgery are practically nil. Also, these issues are not known to be widely forged and there are no obvious issues with them on their face.
The postmarks are also likely legit, though as the entire set has the same cancel, these were probably originally on a philatelic letter. |

'Cancelled by favor' is called 'cancelled to order' here in the States. If you collect used stamps but want them in pristine shape, you can have them cancelled without having to put them on a cover.

Quote: you can have them cancelled without having to put them on a cover And that is exactly why I used 'cancelled by favour' because they may have been on an entire when cancelled. They, even, may have gone through the post but received special care similar to an Ersttagsbrief or Ersttagsblatt which it cannot have been . |

I was unable to see any watermarks by holding them up to the light, and the perfs line up at 13 1/2. I will have to look into Red Raider Stamps. It is very interesting researching the different methods of cancellations. These stamps had hinges, but they all came right off without any effort, and it appears the gum has been undisturbed, at least to the unaided eye. I have never seen any stamps that were this lightly and neatly hinged before! |

Quote: and it appears the gum has been undisturbed That, almost certainly, makes them CTO. |
