I'll add to the multiples which include little oddities.
Here is a strip of seven of the imperforate flat plate coil 344V with plate number at top.
Some 25 million imperforate 344 were printed and many millions more of the perforated version. Out of all the plates used, one, plate 5299 had at least one defective subject which was then touched up by burnishing out the defect and re-entry. The re-entry was incorrectly done using a 1¢ die, however!
This is similar to the causation of the Sc. 467/485/505 re-entry errors.
But in this instance, the 1¢ re-entry error was noticed by BEP QC
before any printing occurred. The erroneous re-entry on plate 5299 was burnished out and a correct 2¢ re-entry made.
However the work of burnishing was not done completely, so there remained an underlying vestige of the 1¢ entry which can be seen as stray lines in both the "TWO" and the "CENTS" spelling out the denomination in the fourth stamp down in the strip. Makes for an interesting variant of the 344V.
