Or more likely, in my opinion, is that this stamp was stored on top of another version of the same stamp. During storage, there was some extreme heat and a minor amount of pressure pushing the two stamps onto one another. (A environmental issue, probably not deliberate.). Then a previous owner found them stuck together and pulled them apart. The stamp that was on the bottom probably was so damaged, it was tossed away long ago.
