This Air Mail cover was mailed from Budapest, Hungary to Olympia, Washington, USA during 1941 franked by two 20f Narrows of Kazan issues (Scott 575) and a 1P Admiral Nicholas Horthy issue (Scott 570), all issued in 1941. Anyone know what the purpose of the double circle handstamps is (clearest one verso)?
The letters seem to be "KÖV". "Követség" is Hungarian for "legation" or "embassy". So I suspect that the handstamp indicates diplomatic mail, not to be opened by censors.
That would fit and makes perfect sense! Unfortunately, my Father isn't around anymore. Being Hungarian, I wonder if he would have come up with the answer. Thank you very much!
