I was reading the prior posts on Scott Stamp 2940, and there use to be two listings, both under 2940. I marked them as 2940-1 and 2940-2. The 2025 Scott Specialized now only shows one. I ordered both veriations and when I look at the gum, there is a difference. Dull Gum and Low Gloss Gum. Also, both have two different USPS numbers and were issued in two different years. I have them marked as follows:

2940-1, USPS #101700, Issued: July 11, 1995
2940-2, USPS #117000, Issued: October 1997

Like I said, Scott lists just one, but use to show two different ones with different gums. Not sure why they combined this stamp into one since they were issued two years apart.

I believe it was the 2000 Scott Specialized catalog. I threw out all my old Catalogs from the 90's as well, but I would say 1999 mentioned it too. Last catalog to mention it, I couldn't tell you. If I remember right, 2014 had it too.

FYI-a counterfeit example of this stamp was recently seen. Easy to spot, since it's not engraved.

It seems we have a conflation of wording about the Scott catalog with wording about USPS products.

"I was reading the prior posts on Scott Stamp 2940, and there use to be two listings, both under 2940."
A Scott catalog "listing" usually refers to a Scott major- or minor-numbered catalog # and everything Scott chooses to "list" with that. It is confusing to say a specific catalog # like 2940 "has more than one listing." (Better : "there used to be two entries...", because Scott does add production or error/freak/oddities variation entries from time to time, unnumbered, below a "normal" entry with a major- or minor-numbered catalog #.)

I marked them as 2940-1 and 2940-2. The 2025 Scott Specialized now only shows one. I ordered both veriations and when I look at the gum, there is a difference. Dull Gum and Low Gloss Gum. Also, both have two different USPS numbers and were issued in two different years."
"issued in two different years" is confusing, because "issued" has specific hobby meaning, apart from "reprinted" or the rare "re-issued". To original poster's credit, this is a hint that something else unawares is going on behind his/her question. Having two different USPS numbers for the same product (a pane of 100 55c stamps), even though no one is arguing of a missing Scott minor-# for a variety, is another hint.

"I have them marked as follows:
2940-1, USPS #101700, Issued: July 11, 1995
2940-2, USPS #117000, Issued: October 1997"
If the OP had only (carefully) added "Reprint" in front of "Issued" for 2940-2, the hints would now be complete, and glaring right next to USPS item #s:
"Reprint Issued:" is right out of the USA Philatelic sales catalog, 1998 Holiday (Vol. 3 #4), page 34 where both 55c Hamilton stamps are offered.
I suspect the notes retained years ago were from the USPS philatelic sales catalogs and/or USPS package labeling of the two items, and were thought recently to be from the Scott catalog(s). (My 2001 Specialized only describes one non-error stamp for Scott 2940.)
USPS's choice of "Reprint Issued" is poor; note that in later years (at least by 2004 I believe), the sales catalogs only state "Reprinted", so Issued can be associated better with those issues given official first-day-of-sale state.
