Hi Bob You wrote Quote: set of four, color offset and typographically printed stamps. I'm curious as to why you say typographically printed? As per Unitrade the six Commonwealth stamps were printed Lithography (5 colours) with foil stamping Do you suggest that the gold foil was done via typography? Interesting also about these stamps is that they were some of the few the Australian printer Leigh-Mardon Pty Ltd produced for Canada Post in 1994. |

Lithograving, yes I used the word typography, although no ink was applied.
The foil stamping is done with a hot metal die, giving the rich, reflective gold in the impressed lettering. In bookbinding, this is just called hot foil stamping, or foil stamping. My terminology may be incorrect, or imprecise as far as the printing trade is concerned.

Thanks for the explanation Bob. So you really did work in the bookbinding trade. |

Yes, did it for 35 years...the last 17 after retiring from my real job. Went through a lot of leather and glue. |

On May 2, 2000 Great Britain issued its fifth series of four "Millennium Projects" stamps. The 45 p stamp (SG #2144) of this set shows what appears to be a highway's bicycle lane marking. |

Here is the 26 p value (SG #2074) from Great Britain's February 2, 1999 "Millennium Series: The Travelers' Tale" set of four stamps. Stamp represents the development of the bicycle. The dachshund on wheels is an interesting touch. |

What a great subject a bike, a con, a mail route, postmarks, preprinted envelope's, genuine stamps, altered stamps, second issue genuine, second issue fake, third issue fake, lawyers, sworn affidavit's This 12L is a FAKE The story behind Banta is incredible and hard to believe as to his outright hustling and a bit of larceny A difficult area to collect as there is a finite number of postally used examples and covers have been expensive for decades and seldom seen. Our family has been in the bicycle biz with several stores and did manufacture custom bikes as needed. This might be a great thread to bring out other items around this and I have compiled some items to share. Bicycles always were so much fun at Christmas time being Santa Claus. |
