What is the oldest engraved stamp in your collection?
Although I love very much engraved stamps and love posting in this thread and in other web sites, I don't regard myself as an "Engraved stamp collector". Most of the engraved stamps I am posting are part of my different thematic and classic collections like: primates (apes and monkeys), mythologies of the world, folklore and countries like Laos which is my main priority, Cambodia, Burma etc. Only in the last two years I started to keep engraved stamps that are not fitting any of my collections but I find very attractive.
Looking at my different collections, I think my oldest engraved stamps are two identical stamps in a set show Orangutan issued for use in North Borneo in 1899 in two colors. The set was engraved and printed by Waterlow & Sons of London (Information by Nethryk, page 22 of this thread):
One of the 1899 stamps in green and black. The second is black and carmine:
These two stamps were reissued several time (until 1921) with different overprints: Postage due, British protectorate, Postage due on British protectorate):
Stamps overprinted for use in Labuan (this particular yellowish/brown black stamp was not issued, the carmine one in the second scan is the issued stamp):
There are many different varieties of these stamps, hence a large area of research.
Next oldest stamp in my collection is from 1903 issued for use in Madagascar. So, what is your oldest engraved stamp? would like to see several examples
