France issued these Red Cross stamps in August and September 1914 within
a month after the commencement of the First World War.

France issued this stamp in August 1918, 3 months before the end of World War I.
Surcharge was for the benefit of the Red Cross.

One lucky collector will soon have the rare opportunity to own the unique US #702a 1931 Red Cross stamp missing the Red Cross due to a paper foldover. This stamp (included in a block of 36) is up for auction November 12, 2024 (Siegel sale 1334 lot 105).
