My collection includes a few picture postcards from the Panama-Pacific Exposition, held in San Francisco in 1915. Here are a couple of these.

This is a Post Card mailed from Seattle Washington to Tacoma Washinton with a round stamp cancelled in 1913 but the stamp itself is cancelled with a (weird looking to me) World's Panama Pacific Exposition San Francisco 1915 cancellation. Was the Post Office advertizing the Expo two years before the event. Also I love the picture of the stump house.

The slogan cancel is period for the time.

Here's an example of an even earlier Panama Pacific Exposition slogan cancel from Seattle, Washington, dated August 3, 1913:

By the way, this link provides some additional information on the Cedar Stump House in Edgecomb, Washington and the photographer who took a famous 1901 photograph of it:

1913 are not uncommon at all. Special slogan cancels promoting the expo go back to 1911.
Below is a San Francisco (Bomar SF15-09) from May 17, 1911.

Apologies to all, for calling a patriotic cancel "weird looking". The exposition, judging from the images doug2222 posted really must have been quite grand. An equivalent to todays internet.

Not a picture of the fair, but the post card does have a Panama Pacific slogan cancel together with a US 397 Balboa stamp.

When Mabel sent Edna a postcard a century ago, she didn't know we'd stick it up on the Internet for everyone to see -- and READ!

That must have been quite a sight to have been there! Does anyone know if any of the buildings still exist from the expo?
