Hi all

I recently inherited my father's stamp collection and found an interesting piece on it.

It is a deluxe proof of a Saar 1956 stamp signed by Pierre Gandon. I sent a picture to a german auctioner and he questioned the autenticity saying that in his catalogues the engraver of the stamp is Jules Piel.

I found a discussion in another forum saying that the 3 stamps of this series were engraved by 3 different artists: Charles Mazelin, Jules Piel and Pierre Gandon. I have searched for some days and made contact with a lot of sites and foruns but could not clarify my doubts.

Do you have any information that could possibly assure the autenticity of this proof?

Regards

Jordan

Well, I don't know which catalog the German auctioner used; But my Michel clearly states that the engraving of this stamp was done by Gandon.

In general, stamp traders know everything...But stamps...And, I've met quite a few in 50 years!

Thank you very very much for your answer. I am sorry to ask you this, but would it be too much difficult for you to post a picture of this page of your catalog? I live in Brazil and do not have the Michel.

Thanks again

Here it is. I hope I'm not breaking any rules. It's a very old catalog (1995) with prices still in DMarks. Picture deleted to avoid problems.

My 1991/92 Michel Deutschland shows that it was engraved by Gandon

Just a thought.
Jules Piel was a designer and an engraver,
Perhaps he had input in the design (frame?)

It is possible, but I don't think I could verfy this information.

Thanks for your comment.
