Although not a cover, I found this postcard in my collection "Washington Islanders". Not to be confused with Washington Island in Wisconsin and the Washington Islanders baseball team.

Teraina, also known as Washington Island (both names are constitutional), is a coral atoll in the central Pacific Ocean, part of the Northern Line Islands belonging to Kiribati. The island has an area of 7.8 km˛ (3 mi˛), and the population in 1990 was 936 (more than 1,000 in 2000).

Posting is not exactly to topic but, it is Washington Island.

littleriverphil, Here is a more recent Samoa, California cover with a clearer cancel. I do appreciate your PPC though that shows an oldtimey picture of the town/area.

Here are more US towns with names of other countries and places.

Quote:
From Wikipedia:
There are many places in the United States that are named after places in another country. By far, the majority of the names are due to immigrants naming their new home after their former home. As such they reflect the pattern of immigration to the United States. Immigrants did not just settle in random locations, but rather congregated with others who spoke the same language and had the same religion.
...
An area in western Michigan centered on Holland in southern Ottawa County was settled by religious refugees from the Netherlands. After a split from the state church in the Netherlands, they were unhappy with the restrictions the Dutch government placed on their religious practices.
A number of Belgian names are found clustered in the Green Bay area of northeastern Wisconsin. This reflects the high concentration of Belgian immigrants in that area.
...
A few very unusual sources are Madras, Oregon, which was named after a bolt of Madras cloth seen in the general store, and Poland, Maine, which was named after a medieval-era song that the first settler liked.

I can't find a canceled example but there is a Miami, Manitoba in Canada. If you've ever been to Manitoba in winter, you quickly realize it is NOT like Miami, Florida lol

Why go to Florida when you can go to Miami, Texas? How about going to Lexington? Not Kentucky, but Texas? Fruitland sounds like a nice place to go.

More out of place locations, such as, Canadian, Texas. Although formerly from Hawaii, now I can go to Paradise, Texas. Or, Big Foot, Texas.

So many far off destinations named here, but have you ever taken a woman to Paradise? I have, Paradise, MO; Paradise,NV; and Paradise, CA but that one is not much of a paradise after it's devastating 2018 Camp Fire. Paradise may exist in other locations in the USA, but those are the only three I've reached.

The Camp Fire obliteration Paradise, CA and other small towns, displacing 50,000 folks, destroying over 18,000 structures, post offices too, and ending the life of 85 individuals. Right now it, Paradise and its people are more like a Phoenix on the way back to being Paradise.

How about going to Atlanta, not Georgia, but Texas. Or perhaps, Berlin, not Germany, but Texas. Or perhaps straight to Venus, Texas.
