One reason folks like to collect stamps of countries which no longer exist, so-called dead countries is the fact that the country can be collected completely without concern for new stamps being issued.

Now, I wish the topic of this thread would have the same convenience, no longer having new stamps added to this topic, just as with a dead country. Alas this topic has again expanded. I lived through 1968 and listened to the Democrat Convention on the radio when away at camp (yes I was a news junkie even back then) and as well as that May 15th day in 1972. I lived yesterday too.

Now I am not so myopic to think that shooting presidential candidates is limited to the USA. This has occurred with presidential candidates of other countries as well. If there is a suitable philatelic item worthy of posting of such person, here is the thread.

Please respect that this thread is not about the politics of the candidate, but the horrifying use of violence on a human who wished to lead his or her people through winning an election. Choice is important in elections, violence to try to limit elective choice is never acceptable.

Well, not that it was a contest, but Guyana was surprisingly fast in this new stamp issue.

But wait, there's more. How many unsold examples of this issue will be overprinted by Guyana for various events over the next year or two?

As many as they think new issues buyers will take. After all, that is how they make money.

So I need to correct myself by adding Teddy Roosevelt to the group of candidates shot while running for US President with it occurring October 14, 1912. Unlike the three I mention in my OP, I was not alive for the Teddy attempt. At the time he was running for a third term as president, for the Bull Moose Party but was unsuccessful.

Now after he was shot in the chest, he was not rushed off the stage by a group of US Secret Service members as was done with Donald Trump. No Teddy just stayed on stage and he delivered his scheduled speech but added some new opening comments. His opening comments to the gathered crowd were, "Friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible. I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot—but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose."

To the best of my current knowledge, Teddy Roosevelt and Donald Trump are the only two former president to suffer an assassination after leaving office.

Here are some Teddy Roosevelt issues. He as a former POTUS is included in the Prexie Series and the 1986 Ameripex President Souvenir Sheets Set and has his place in the Liberty Series as well.

Well this thread should have Abraham Lincoln stamp issues. But then we could have a whole thread devoted solely to Lincoln!

Hello chris s, thanks for the view. The issue with Lincoln is he was not shot while campaigning for President which it the the topic of this thread.

He, Lincoln, was assassinated while in office, not during a campaign. That is a different topic which includes more US Presidents than just Lincoln.

Now, shot at in office as a topic would include the smaller topic of shot while President and survived as well as the group just above. Ford of course was shot at but was missed.

Regardless of which theme or topic, my overarching statement remains, "Can we put a stop to the expanding scope of these topics?"

Lastly there is the topic of those president who died in office, by assassination and natural causes.
