Checked out the 2023 Scott Specialized from the library today. Definitely has updates for the Postage Dues, but the scarlet printing dates still not listed.

re dates: Like most of us, we expect too much of the Scott "Specialized" catalog, which is in reality only semi-specialized, and thus we are reliant on the specialty societies for the rest of the story. The November 1965 issue of "The Bureau Specialist" has an article by Walter McIntire which includes the following:

The Scott editors are aware of this article and a later 1946 mention in "Sloane's Column" because I have handed both articles to them in-person. I suspect they may be wanting a first-hand government record rather than second-hand articles.

The #C18 arrived today. That completes the Air Mail page.

I'm still working on redoing the postage dues. Going to rework all the printed pages first and then mount what I have according to the 2023 catalog.

Here's the album page for the Panama-Pacific without stamps where you can see the options given. And I have now switched over to the perf 12 stamps. I wish the #400 wasn't a straight edge, but it's still a nice stamp.

And here's my #400A:

Hey John, It turns out the Harding Memorial spaces were (611 or 613) and 612. I didn't get a chance until today to look again. These are not the only spaces that have the older numbers. There are a handful on page 1 and then later on the #212 through #214 are also wrong. The current #212 used to be numbered #214. Somewhere I have the copyright page for this album so I will able to give you the exact version of the pages.

Note: I bought 1942 catalog which arrived today. The numbers in that catalog follow the pages I have been using here.

And the Edison Memorial spaces:

Ah yes, those images of the blank pages clarify a lot.
One could write a whole book on Scott's numbering changes over the years.

The #95 has arrived. Yeah, it's not centered well, but it is a #95.

I'm waiting on a #97 to replace the #90 that is filling the space on page 1. When I have that, then I'll show the new page 1. What still bothers me is that I don't have a #7 or a #15. I am showing a #14 on page 1.

A somewhat final page 1.

  • The 2nd row stamps are #9, #11, #14, #24, #26, #35.

  • The grills are all F.

  • The last pictorial is #119.

I do have much better examples of #11 and #26 and #114.

Current progress on page 24 (the Officials).

I chose the 6c Lincoln to fill the blank spaces where there was the 1c Franklin and another space: Agriculture, Justice, Navy, and State. I just prefer the Lincoln stamp. I don't have the War Department quite the way I want. I'd like to get a 7c to keep the series sequential. Some of the stamps need a bit of upgrading, but I'm focused on the completing the page before I worry about that. Two of the missing 3 stamps will be here soon (O1 and O15), so I'll be down to one remaining (O57).

This came today. It's not the expected Page 1 stamp, but perhaps I will put it there to keep the sequence pure.

At last, the missing Officials are all here:

I'm going to rework the scans to get consistent black background and then update the page.

I'm also working on completing the Postage Due page. Just a few more stamps to go. Going to be difficult to positively identify the unwatermarked stamps.
