My Minuteman album supplement finally arrived in the mail, so its time for my annual update. This year's supplement consists of 12 pages of 2024 postage stamps and one page for Duck stamps. Also included is one page redesigning a 2023 page to add Scott 5756A and 5789A.
For 2024 there are spots for 152 different stamps. The Ansel Adams and Shaker Design stamps are set up for the entire sheets rather than individual stamps.
From the stamps I collected from home & office mail over the year, I filled 77 spots (51%). The curious can see my previous year reports by searching my user name. I got none of the Turtles, only one Shaker, couple of D&D and Carnival Nights. Filled all of the flags except the "rounded corners" from the coils of 1000/3000 - not a single one of those in the 100s I had saved.
I received just one 2025 stamp two & half months into the year. Collecting current used stamps ain't easy.
I think you did really well to gather that number of last year's stamps. I got maybe 15 or 20.
I have one friend saving stamps for me but it's nothing like the old days growing up when my aunts would bring me envelopes full of stamps they'd saved for me. Slim pickings these days as you point out!
I am having the same problem guys. I save every piece of mail that has a stamp on it (including meter mail and private postage). I almost never receive commemorative stamps in the mail today (unless I ask for it or have bought from a stamp dealer/collector).
While I still buy and love classic U.S. and World stamps, for todays currently offered stamps I am left with buying stamp collections that consist of mostly used modern postage stamps from the 1990's thru to 2025 (today) and beyond.
I am of the opinion postally used stamps from our epoch (I'm sure it has an official name, but I'll call it the "Email era") are going to be highly prized in the not-too-distant future. And while I don't actively collect modern stamps, I enjoy receiving them. One of the members of my local stamp club sends out Christmas cards to all the club members and makes it a point to request cancellations by hand; something I'm sure requires a great deal of charm, if not outright bribery to accomplish.
So I'll echo the sentiment by Mainer - you've done very well in collecting more than half of last year's stamps!
I was just thinking "Somebody" needs to start a round-robin club for 20 people who take turns buying commemorative sheets and sending greeting cards to each of the other 19.
Mainer, that is a great idea!! I would totally participate in that. I would just have to make sure that my local USPS counter clerk would willingly hand cancel the stamps and place them in the mail stream (no hand-backs).
