Type V.

That is the centerline from plate 2 (Ty V plate), not plate 1.
The distance to the centerline is too close to be plate 1.

Also the bottom line is strong, like Ty V, etc etc.

A plate 1 cover I have, with a strip of 3 Ty II's, Scott #32, showing the centerline, and how far away it was from the right pane on plate 1.

Thanks txstamp for the quick reply and confirming what I expected, and with different reasons than what I saw. I did not realize the guideline was in a different place on the different plates. Good to know.

I bought the stamp last week identified as a #13 from Dutch Country Auctions (Sale 357 lot 228). I bid without paying much attention to the ID of the stamp, I just had "#13 with a red cancel" on my want list and it was going for less than 25% of CV.

After I won the stamp I went back to take a closer look and I saw some possible perf holes at the lower left, and no pearls to the right of the scrolls. Before the end of the sale, and before they had packaged and shipped the stamp, I notified the auction house of the suspected mistake. Unfortunately their policy for returns is that I need to send the stamp in for a certificate and only if the agency confirms that it is misidentified will they issue a refund. I am now in possession of the stamp and getting ready to send it to the PF.

Not to cast aspersions on this auction house, I have had good experiences with them in the past, but classic US is not their main specialty. As seen in another thread recently, even the largest auction houses make mistakes sometimes. Fortunately the auction houses will honor refunds in a professional manner, unlike some eBay sellers. Though I do prefer the auction houses that will submit the extensions themselves rather than the buyer having to go through the hassle.

Just a reminder I need pay attention to what I am bidding on. The description and identification is not always what it seems.

Here is a #35 with the bottom stamp showing the centerline, and the narrower gap between the design and the centerline on plate 2. The rate from CA to the UK was 29¢ at this time. The cover shows a 1¢ convenience overpayment and the cover was rated "30" instead of "29"

I am pretty sure the PF will get this right for you.

I agree that I like having the house send in items for certs. Its much more convenient and probably safer (at a guess).

I try very hard to not make bidding mistakes like that but I saw a cover going cheaply (~$100) and it was a good use so I bought it. Turns out I missed the word "front" in the description. That word is a lot killer and easy to miss. I dont buy fronts. Fortunately it was cheap so no big deal. You have to read every word and study the heck out of any scan.

spqr - nice use! I always like those foreign West coast usages.

I think I shared my 29c cover with you.
I also picked up a 5c brick red 15c rate to France ( no surcharge that treaty ).
