Has anyone ever come across an overprint like this on the 1945 Greenland series(beautiful by the way)? My Google image search gave me the following "AI" answer. Loved the response comparing it the One Cent Magenta

Quote:
Overprint:
The "4.00" overprint suggests a change in the stamp's value after its initial printing. Overprints are often used to indicate new postal rates or to correct errors.

Rarity and Value:
The search results mention the British Guiana One-Cent Magenta, a rare stamp that sold for $8.3 million. While this Greenland stamp may not be as valuable, older and rarer stamps can be highly sought after by collectors.

It's from the 1995 issue of a miniature sheet to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Denmark. FACIT 266, SG MS284(c)

Stanley Gibbons doesn't give a price for the single stamp separated from the miniature sheet, but FACIT prices it at about the equivalent of $2.50 (US), which is a little less than $8,300,000. It's cancelled to order, of course, probably on the first day of issue, 5 May 1995, in the town of Tasiilaq.

I hope this information isn't disappointing.

PJR - thank you! It's good to have that info. I thought Scott would have a "See Nos. xxx to xxx" underneath the 1945 listing to help locate it. I see where it is Scott #295 now. Looks very much like the original.

If you compare the reproduction with the original, you'll notice (a) the printing method of the reproduction is lithography instead of recess-printing, (b) the reproduction has a grid of dots extending into the margins, which I'd call burelage if it were printed separately, (c) the vignette in the reproduction doesn't overlap the frame and (d) the perforations of the reproduction are comb perf 13¼ × 13, not line perf 12. Also (e) the reproduction looks quite blurred, but perhaps your scan is low-resolution.

For me, these little details are what make stamps interesting!

In case you haven't got the original or anybody else is interested, here's my copy of the 1945 version:
