This thread is for members to display the flaws that they find on the NSW De La Rue Queen Victoria portrait One Penny, Halfpenny overprint on 1d and Halfpenny stamps.

There are plenty, so hopefully you can find a few.

Here's a start:

One Penny - flaws on ST of POSTAGE and NN of PENNY on SG 223f

Halfpenny overprint on 1d - 2L7 Large white flaw on POSTAGE and top of head on SG 266:

Halfpenny - diagonal scratch through design on SG 298:

Wow! What a nice thread! You got some beautiful flaws! I'll definitely look at the only 2 or 3 one penny and half pence I have. We never know...

I posted this image in 2018. The flaw was still on the half penny grey stamps.

Thanks Bobby De La Rue, very nice examples of 1R7.

Could you please post a link to your original post of these images?

Thanks Bobby De La Rue, do you know of an online link to the Sir Gawaine Baillie auction catalogue that you reference in that post? I'd like to have a copy of that catalogue.

This may well be an earlier state of the flaw on 1R7:

Try eBay or Abebooks FDS. I can't find a link to the catalogue itself.

I'd say you're right about the 1d DLR, being an early state of the flaw I posted

Constant diagonal scratch from outer frame through S of WALES almost to the Queen's head and white patch in the Queen's hair.

Is that the so called 'speared queen' variety FDS, or is that another flaw entirely?

Bobby De La Rue, I've never heard of that variety on this stamp but I guess if the cap fits...

I have heard of the 'spear' in emu, kangaroo's back and kangaroo's rump found on Plate 4 of the King George V 1913-14 engraved stamps!

It was mentioned in the John Bell auction (Prestige #181 8 May 2013) but regretfully not illustrated.

Maybe this one is the "speared Queen"?

Could be! That's a nice scratch Bobby De La Rue.

Here are some stages of the progression of flaws on 2L60:

FDS, do you have a copy of E W Wetherell's article on the 1891 Half Penny surcharge on the 1d DLR? It was published in the American Journal of Philately in October 1903. Regretfully it only covers the top half of the sheet.

I have an image of the lower half of the sheet if you need it. There's nowhere near as many flaws but there's certainly identifiable features that may enable plating.
