A couple of my favorite covers are from Chicopee, Mass I just added this first one to my collection. . .The beautiful, perfect strike of the Chicopee, Mass. CDS is what drew me to this cover. . .but there is more! The stamp is a 10A 45R2E (Recut 26: Vertical line ties upper left corner of ULDB block to TFL) AND the contents are historically relevant - my write up: "Sent by James T. Ames, head of the Ames Manufacturing Company—then the nation's leading supplier of military swords and equipment—to Col. James W. Ripley, commandant of the Springfield Armory and later a Brigadier General and Chief of Ordnance for the Union Army during the Civil War. In the letter, Ames explains delays in delivering field officers' swords due to production setbacks." And the second cover has a run-of-the-mill #26 with Chicopee's fancy intertwined 6-pointed star (Skinner-Eno ST-6P 23). |

Wow, some wonderful material showed up over the weekend. @ioagoa - that 3c plate 8 reconstructed block is amazing. Too bad its not on cover - but then it wouldn't be arranged neatly in plate position order as you have it. @stampcrow - your off-cover 3c stamp is definitely a British Empire transit cancel. They used that double circle style throughout the Empire. Statistically, its likely a British city. That's a good marking struck on a stamp, as those are not designed to be killers - just transit markings to indicate that the cover passed through that PO. Your Oakland College cover also caught my eye. I do recall discussing these with you previously on here. @classic - Those are nice cancels. One of the great things about collecting the 3c stamp, is that since it carried most of the (domestic) mails, you can acquire a terrific variety of cancels. When I focused on the 1c stamp, it severely limited my view of cancellations and postal markings, as the 1c stamp did not get the same scale of use that the 3c stamp did. |

@dutch - I can't believe you posted the (other) Stockton Spider Web cover. Here is mine - https://www.philamercury.com/covers.php?id=29935Yours is the one illustrated on page 290 in Letters of Gold, while mine is on page 346. I have never seen another outside of these two; although, never say never. Wonderful item. Well I'll just upload mine here ... edit: I want to say that some time ago, I may have seen another Spider Web cover, but in poor condition, thus in a group lot. My memory may or may not be correct here. |

Dutch, first I'm sorry for the poor quality of my pics. I don't have a scanner so I take photos using my iPad. The cancel looks like a purplish dark red to my eyes. |
