Can you help me judge if this scott #122 is real and therefore worth buying? What aspects should I pay attention to and what do you notice?

What I notice is wonderful centering, somewhat weak grilling.

If the 1869 experts here have no negative comments, assuming a acceptable price, you found an excellent stamp.

Now I will join you in waiting.

Without an in hand examination including dipping it, it is really not possible to give any definitive answer.

It's almost certainly genuine, but the actual condition is unknown.

I also think it is real, with good centering and a fairly good cancel. As others have implied, you would need to have it in hand to better look at thins and other damages to help you determine an offer price.

You might want to take a close look at the top perfs, which were scissors trimmed if they are original. The grill is not strong enough for me to count it in this pic, but what shows seems to be in order. The color and centering appear here to be first rate, but I would not hazard a comment on authenticity for its features based only on the image here.

I also think the stamp is authentic. I also agree the top perferations have been trimed. The grill is light but normal for this issue to be light. To get a value to what the stamp is worth. I agree one would have to have the stamp in hand to determine it condition. The centering is very nice for this issue and the color is deep and full. It has an above average impression. Over all at the right price it would be an keeper for sure. I personally would add thus to my collection. Nice find and happy hunting.
