Back in the balmy (barmy?) days of the ‘70's and 80's Australia Post was very supportive of philatelists.
National Stamp Week was an exciting time on the calendar with schools and hospitals being visited by philatelic and other staff.

Youngsters were invited to design a poster and the winning entries were rewarded with a plaque.
These were very smart and the two shown here have the illustrations of the Captain Cook 7/6d stamp on the 1980 plaque and the 9d from the ‘Animals' series on the 1981.

Nice items to add interest to a collection, but difficult to show, weighing in at 616 grams and 818 grams respectively.

I just scan them and print the illustrations on the album page.

I wonder how many of these are still floating around.

Ron.

Q/ Do any images of the winning posters survive? Were they published in stamp mags?

Perhaps in old Aussie newspapers now living on only in Google Books ...?

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

That's a good question.

I will have to do a little bit of googling and I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
Regards
Ron.

There was always an annual "Miss Philately" as well.

Thanks for those images Rod, they look in extremely good condition.
I am sure they would make very interesting reading too.

Did some googling for the results of the competition but with no luck.
I was pretty much involved with the Stamp Week visits etc. and did see some of the entries but never heard about the winners.

Stirs up some memories though.
Ron
