I recently purchased a France #9 at auction. After receiving the stamp at home and upon close inspection I am beginning to think it is a forgery based on information at stampforgeries.com ( http://stampforgeries.com/forged-st...album-weeds/ )
The stamp has 97 pearls, 5th neck shading line from bottom is complete, ears of corn in headdress look correct. However there is no second shading line in the margin "keys" on the left side, shading under eye looks too weak, the "P" in post looks wrong,the front margin of the first strand of hair below the ear looks wrong and other small issues. What say the community?

It is a fake. You pointed out some of the issues. Also, the hair is very problematic in general (the bottom back of the head in particular), the letters are all poorly done, the lower left corner ornament is wrong, the short horizontal components between the vertical background lines are missing or in the wrong locations and so forth. Other folks can speak to whether or not the cancel is appropriate.

I say buying higher value stamps from unknown sellers on eBay starting at $0.01 is a crap shoot. Send it back to him.

You caught me. I will try to keep my hand out of the cookie jar, but it can be so tempting.

Thanks for the other replies, looked at the earlier thread and realized I didn't even get the quality forgery.

It looks like a Fournier reproduction.

This is a Fournier tete-beche from Sparks Auctions in December 2012.
