I submit that it would be helpful if, when the "Sorry, you're trying to post something that is prohibited" message comes up, it would highlight or otherwise specify the offending word/item/etc. so the OP can make the appropriate corrections rather than just being left to guess at what they did wrong.

While it is understandable that you would not like to publish a list, the members currently have no way of knowing exactly what's on your list of prohibited words (other than swear words) or websites that have spammed you in the past or are not "family friendly".

Therefore, the highlighting on a case-by-case basis, would certainly help avoid any more of posts like this one.

There are extensions for Chrome that will theoretically allow you to recover lost form data in the event of an error. I can't recommend any in particular as I don't use Chrome on a regular basis, but you can find them in the Chrome store by searching for "form recovery".

Double-edged sword. If spammers/offenders know specifically what you are looking to block, then you end up with creative things like W.a.L.-.Ma.r.T or B-ur-g-er-K-in-g. that sneak through.

The issue with browser support is not simply browser X or browser Y. It is the thousands of potential combinations with devices, operating systems, plugins, etc. I recall sitting in meetings and having software engineers argue for browser based apps with the justification of ‘write once, run anywhere' like it was the best thing since sex. We are a long distance from that fantasy anymore. Additionally, browsers started life with a single purpose: display a webpage but very quickly moved to additional ‘functionality'. A good, simple browser engine is easily less than 2MB yet most today are pushing over 50MB and some are several hundred MBs.

Truthfully I am unsure how anyone could rely upon using a single browser; I find myself constantly using 2-3 different browsers daily. Each browser/OS/device combination has their own strengths and weaknesses. Before I ever report an issue to a website or app developer I have tested under several browsers to make sure the problem is repeatable.

Regarding writing longer posts, I always write in a 3rd party app first. This forces me to proofread it but most importantly allows me to save the post on my device. I use a email app and I have a directory in which all my posts get saved into after I write them. They are locally searchable and easily found (especially if you posts to multiple forums). Of course if I am simply going to write a quick reply with just a few sentences, I post without the 3rd party app.

It would be VERY helpful if the offending text would be highlighted when the rejection notice is displayed.

It took me several tries and moderator messages to determine the 'offending text' was a link I was posting that went to another much earlier SCF topic.

I finally deleted the SCF link from my post and my reply to the topic got published. I then just emailed the member the earlier SCF topic link I had tried to post.

Of course, and we could also do other expensive improvements too but this is a free resource.

The disallowed things are there for legitimate reasons. If everyone just works around them the community loses money and eventually could go away.

Would people be willing to pay for a membership if they are allowed to post whatever they want?

There are zero scenarios that a link to another SCF topic wouldn't be allowed.

For those who might be interested, here is a link to a website which allows you to load a webpage to test for browser compatibility.
http://browsershots.org/

Note the number of browsers and versions listed, and this list barely scratches the surface of what is really involved in cross testing a website. A person could easily build an engineering department with 10 test engineers and still not be able to fully cover the proper testing of a website.

And by the time you think you are finally done, the marketplace has moved forward by 6 months and now you have hundreds more OS/browser/device combinations to test for!

Well, there is at least one scenario because it happened to me and I even discussed it with you and 51studebaker at the time.

This is just an observation, not an attempt to challenge the mods.

As for paying for the privilege to use SCF, please note I do pay.

I apologize if my "wish list" for improvements in a discussion I didn't start upset the mods. This discussion topic needs to be retired.

Believe me, I've put all the blocks in place. There is nothing to block an SCF link. There must have been a different problem.

Oldguy requested help from me on 1/1/2018 when he received the 'Sorry, the site is busy, cannot be posted right now' error message while he was trying to post to the "A desperate cry for help!" http://goscf.com/t/58390 I replied and explained that the typical source of the message was a disallowed link and suggested that he try removing the link. Oldguy responded and mentioned that, "The link is to another topic in the forum. It was trying to take her to the TOPICALS topic forum." I did not receive any additional info to be able to troubleshoot the issue further (nor did I follow-up) and assumed that Oldguy figured out the issue and moved on.
