They seem to be plate numbers. It looks like the letter is printed in the dark color (bird) and the numeral is printed in the background color. So, two printing plates perhaps?

Thanks Robert. Yes, it looks like seperate printings. Plate numbers, as you suggest, makes sense, rather than unique serial numbers for each sheet. I find it unlikely that the first sheets (serial number 1) of the printings should end up on my desk. |

Nada. I had been expecting an auction lot from Kelleher I paid for in mid-Feb so sent a follow up email today and it was shipped today. |

I'm not sure if this would also for qualify for "Stamps on Stamps" but these came this morning attached to mail from the Royal Philatelic Society of London, featuring their logo on Belgian first class stamps. The current RPSL President, Patrick Maselis, is Belgian. The edges of the stamps aren't not too easy to see against the white background, even with a bit of Photoshop tinkering. The date of the cancel has me a bit puzzled, suggesting as it does a 7 week delay in delivery, but I'm sure there is a good reason for it. Water-staining indicates typical British weather: heavy rain... |

Well done. I love black pages, and sometimes buy them, but they're (a) much more expensive than white quadrille, and (b) very unforgiving if you make mistakes! |

My first '25A on cover'. It's place holder quality, but I'm glad to have it. This dovetails with the thread talking about writing on covers... |
