Many thanks, Rein. The detailed article will help me pick up some useful philatelic and stamp printing terminology in Polish. Cheers!

Fantastic, Rein. Thanks a lot!

What could be the problem with the illustrations in the very last pdf?

I have nothing to add but wanted to know what scanner/camera settings you used to capture these images.

Everything is OK, Rein. The sort of moir effect in the pictures in the last pdf did not appear in the prints of it. Great reading last night! Many thanks again!

I just happen to have called in the local library and now have to catch my train home.

Galeoptix - Rein, the articles make great reading. I spent most of last cold and rainy weekend going through Parts III and IV of it, nearly ruining my eyesight as I was peering into my detailed and expensive Polish-Czech dictionary in small print having to differentiate between all those a-, e-, o-, c-, l - , n-, s- pairs and even z-- triplets or szcz quadruplets, pszcz quintuplets, etc. because so many words in Polish resemble the Czech ones but mean different things, therefore being capable of playing havoc in unfamiliar technical texts, yet I was unable to stop!

Thanks a lot. Much obliged.

Just wondering how you manage with Polish. At least you have the advantage of not beeing led astray by your mother tongue. Is there anything I might try explaining to you?

Galeoptix - Rein,

Last Saturday while in Brno, I found a mint Polish 1952 Lenin issue as described in the article. I took it wondering at the strange look of the 30 + 15 g value so different from the 45 + 15 g one.

Do you think you could post the blown-up scans of the pair in this thread?

S pozdravem

Florin

Galeoptix - Rein, if possible, compare the Luxembourg Palace trio issued by France in 1946 (10f), May 1948 (12f), and December 1948 (15f) as shown in the post of March 18, 2016 on the Decaris Crazy! blog, p. 4 of older posts, http://albertdecaris.blogspot.cz/ as to size.

To me, the earliest issue almost appears to be a wee smaller in size than those issued later on. The latter two have less crisp lines, perhaps due to the trasferring process.

Groetjes,

Florian

Florian, here are the 3 Luxembourg Palace stamps in question.

The 10f 1946 issue shows the fine engraved lines much more
than the 12f 1948 whereas the 15f printing looks heavy more
like offset than engraved but could that be due to overinking
perhaps ?

lithograving - Thanks for your fine scans. I've only got the 10f and 15f values and they do look the same printing quality as yours or those shown on http://albertdecaris.blogspot.cz/ .

What I meant by comparing them as to size was placing all the three of them vertically one on top of each other with precision leaving just the top strip with the inscription POSTES visible on each of the bottom ones and blowing their group image up so as to be able to see whether they varied in length, such as in http://goscf.com/t/48681&whichpage=4#421247

BTW, Papy24 has promised to try and deal with the problem in his blog http://blog-impressions-timbrees.blogspot.cz/ and I will try and post a translation here. Thanks both of you.

florian , I lined them up as best I could but
I have to admit I see no variance in length
between the three.

Does it have anything to do with it wearing down resulting in the lines become more thicker, flatter and/or duller?

lithograving - Thank you very much for your kind help. To me, the 1946 10f value seems a wee bit longer than those issued in 1948.

jogil - You may be right. I, too, would say the thicker lines, especially in the 15f value, might result from the transfer process.
